Cut-and-paste Beatles rip-off nonsense. Some catchy/nice tunes, otherwise...

Say what you will about Oasis, but those guys really know how to act like rock stars. All of the quarrels, substance abuse, revolving door of girlfriends, public meltdowns. It's all perversely satisfying to me. Thank you Oasis. They play music? |

Yes, they have been the best band in the world for the last 12 years after all.

Led Zeppelin.
Great musicians, good mixers of great influences, highly original (and of course influential), nice chaps it seems, but no. Minly because of the tone of RP's voice, I think.
To me Whole Lotta Love is about as exciting as James the Blunt.
(Disclaimer: I liked their third album a bit when I heard that) |

The Fall, Fantomas, Joy Division, Captain Beefheart, Television.
And I don't get the Guided by Voices thing. An average band, in my opinion.

Well, you definitely should lke Captain Beefheart. I'm glad you admit that you should like him. After all, he fits all the criteria of a great musician (rugged individualism, poetic lyrics that showcase fragments of genius, the fact that he obviously puts a lot of effort into his songs), but I understand that sometimes a musicians' work just won't appeal to you despite all the rational reasons why you should like it.
I really should like Mozart more than I do. I don't know; his melodies just seem a little too obvious at times, but in his defense, I haven't listened to that much of him. I know that I definitely should like him for the impact that he has had on the world of classical music.
And I love Guided By Voices, but the song "Over The Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox" is a song that I really should like, but don't. I mean, I have no idea why I don't like it. It compiles every side of the band in 6 minutes! There are so many hooks on it, but alas, I just can't bring myself to like it. |

Yeah, that's what I love about them too.
I guess Oasis is in the "bands I like, but have very little rationale for liking" category. Or more simply put, "Bands I shouldn't like, but do."
Their newer stuff is terrible, though. |
