Howdy all, just thought i would start a thread on a subject i have been giving some thought to.
From reading the posts here, i get the impression that FMRM has been well received by the fine and upstanding members of this great site.
I like this album and support Frank in whatever musical direction he goes, however much i would rather he goes back to rocking out with the Catholics and/or EDF.
Anyway what i've been thinking is that of the 2 latest records, i belive that Honeycomb has the grander more epic tracks, i mean i love Barleycorn/Ruin/Poison/Fast Man. But compared to songs like Life in Storage / Selkie bride / Honeycomb i don't think they compare. I know that they were 2 different sessions and that they were different players etc. I just think that in 10 years or so i'll still be spinning Life in storage, whilst i won't be in such a hurry to play If your poison gets you.
Anybody else think that Honeycomb will be the timeless classic?

Actually, I think I only listened to HC right through once!! Some really good songs, but I think FM/RM is better, despite some not-so thrilling moments (Namely the second half of side 1!).

At the moment I'd say FMRM, maybe because it's still new though. In ten years, who knows? I'm sure I'll still be listening to both though.

Tough one, two completely differnt albums. Currently spinning FMRM a lot, but that could because I'm trying to nail down the words for the 8/14 show. HC is still awesome and I'm sure I'll listening to both for years to come.

To me, Honeycomb sounds all the more sweeter with the release of FM/RM. I too think in time Honeycomb will shine.

As Adam said, they are both completely different. I love Fast Man Raider Man, but Honeycomb is a really special album to me. I just think it is perfect in every possible way. The songs, the mood, the production, and the way it all fits in with Frank's style so perfectly.
Fast Man Raider Man has some incredible songs and incredible moments, and I still continue to listen to it regularly, but I think, just for the fact that it's so perfect, Honeycomb will stand up better over time.

Honeycomb certainly has some fine songs; I find the album far more enjoyable in small chunks, rather than as a straight listen. It'll be good to hear how the songs are interpreted live. |

I think Fast Man Raider Man will be the album that I will go back to much more. It is much more diverse than Honeycomb.
I think Honeycomb is a mood album. I have to be in a certain vibe to listen to it. I really love it of course but it is nowhere near what Fast Man Raider Man is for me.
I think it is Frank's best since DITS.

Honeycomb evolved into a bigger and better album, which has come to be known as Fast Man Raider Man.

Franks voice and melodies on FM/RM have really grown on me. It seems that his albums have matured perfectly with my taste in music.
Honeycomb is the diet version of FM/RM. |
