Thanks a bunch to fbc for noticing:
http://www.thejdset.co.uk/index.aspx
<<Frank Black, Guy Garvey and Richard Hawley will be joining forces on stage for a one-off show with the 'New Silver Cornet Band' - a band of established Tennessee musicians, brought together for one night only.
They will play at the distillery in the tiny town of Lynchburg, Tennessee on 6th October 2006 to a select audience of just 200 competition winners and invited guests flown in from the UK. In the spirit of all JD Sets, after the gig, the artists will celebrate Mr. Jack's Birthday with the fans.
To be in with a chance of experiencing Jack Daniel's Birthday in Tennessee and raise a glass to the man himself - all you need to do is click the link below.
UK residents only. You must be over 21.>>
This is some seriously crazy shit. I can't even begin to imagine how cool this would be.

Just googled the names, Guy Garvey is the leader of Elbow. Richard Hawley is, well, Richard Hawley. Anyway, who cares about who'll be on stage. Free booze!

Jack Daniels is putting on a concert in the US and only people from the UK can go? What the fuck. Someone should ring up Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly.
And why is Jack Daniels putting dates in the European format like 13/10/06? What's more redneck than Jack Daniels? |

antipodean means from the land down under. ie australia, new zealand, and i also think south africa as well (tho probly not in the date example) - it's a term used lots in the UK with regard to people from said countries on their OE.
it's dictionary definition is related to two places in diametrically opposite positions...so i assume, being that AUS/NZ are "almost" diametrically opposite the UK on the earths surface thats where it comes from.
anyways - i always used day/month/year - it's what we were taught at school, however i've had to change to year/month/day from using bittorent sites like dimeadozen.org because everyone gets confused by day/month/year.....

Yeah, I'd recommend watching 2001 Maniacs before considering applying for the contest... wouldn't want to end up like this.

Nope, we use day/month/year. It's the one thing we have in common with the UK. Not enough to call them Europeans though, I agree. Maybe it's the Lichtenstein...

I don't even have a set standard that I use. Sometimes day/month, sometimes month/day, usually depending on who I'm talking to or if they've got it in a certain format already. Year-month-day is the way anything on my computer is labeled because then it organizes chronologically rather nicely.

You guys will never guess what?! My brother has won the competition! Someone from Jack Daniels rang him just now and said that if he makes sure he faxes them his and his guests passport by tommorow the free tickets and flights are his! Plus he gets to meet FB after the show!
Unfortunately Im not allowed to go with him because they said that the guest also has to be 21 so Im pretty annoyed considering it was me who suggested he enter. Nevertheless, it was him who introduced me to FB in the first place so a fair trade off methinks! He's a big FB fan so Im sure he'll have a great time. Plus he's never been to America so he's really looking forward to that too! What a lucky fuck!!!
