I just heard that Tom Waits is playing in Atlanta (where I live) on August 1 at the Tabernacle. The only problem is that tickets went on sale two days ago and they're sold out. In fact, I'm sure they sold out about a minute after they went on sale. If this were any other artist, I would probably just say too bad, I'll have to try again next time around. But this is TOM WAITS, and his first appearance in Atlanta in probably twenty years, and likely his last ever. Not only that, but I've always said I would give anything to see Tom Waits live. If I could pick any artist in the whole world to see live it would be Tom Waits. Anyways, this is a long shot, but if anyone has or knows anyone that has just one extra ticket, I will pay full price plus any tax, shipping, and/or convenience charges and will be eternally indebted to you for the rest of my life. I'm going crazy here, I don't know what to do. No tickets are on ebay yet, but even then, I don't have $500+ to spend on a concert tickets. The regular price of $65 is bad enough.

Good luck, NM.

To make matters even worse, I just read that tickets are will call only, meaning they have to be picked up with photo ID, the night of the show only, meaning there's no possibility of any showing up on ebay or any other ticket scalping websites.

Not true - a guy could have bought 2 tickets, puts one up online, and on the day of the show, he picks up the tickets and gives you yours.

Is there a reserves list you can put your name on? I know it's an outside shot but there will always be people who can't make it. Otherwise, practise your blagging skills, get a security job at the venue or marry a roadie.

Good call, I'll contact the venue and see if there's any kind of reserves list. Another possibility is that the radio station promoting it might give away tickets the week of the show, but that's a long shot, considering they've probably got their hands full with the next Dave Matthews concert or whatever-the-hell else they're busy promoting (I have no idea why they chose to promote a Tom Waits concert, considering they've NEVEr, not ONCE, played a single one of his songs).

Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for tickets in that forum. The ticketmaster link just has the "tickets no longer available" message.

I got my ticket for Tom Waits in Asheville. I had 3rd row seats, but since Ticketmaster is a son of bitch, and I lost it somehow and had to start over. I still got good seats somehow. |

Well, I'm happy for you (and jealous!) I was contemplating going over to Asheville (a little over three hours away), but it's sold out now, so it's too late for that. I'm currently contemplating going to the Nashville show (about four hours away), and I've got about eight minutes to make up my mind before tickets go on sale. I guess I could always get tickets, and if I decide I can't do it at the last minute just sell them (at face value, of course).

They go on sale at 12:00 central time (I thought it was eastern), so that gives me another hour to make up my mind. I'm just kind of weighing the pros and cons here, but I think I might do it.

There are no cons!
It's Tom Waits. You must go. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity as far as we know. |

If you don't you'll probably regret it. Like you say, if you buy the ticket then can't make it you'll still be able to sell it to someone else.

You might also be able to trade the Nashville ticket for an Atlanta one. |

I am now the proud owner of two Tom Waits tickets! I got tickets to the Memphis show because I've got family over there that I can go see and stay with. They're literally the worst seats in the whole building but they're mine!

Congrats! I've had a smile on my face all morning (after the ticketmaster bull shit).
Basically there are balcony seats and floor seats in asheville. If you selected floor seats it only gave you the option for "international will call." So there was no "USA" listed under country. Therefore my first attempt timed out because I didn't know what to do. Fuck ticketmaster to hell. I would have had 3rd row seats. I said I lived in the United States outlying islands the second time. I called ticketmaster and they claimed that would not be a problem. I still have decent seats so I'm happy. I just really hate the hell out of ticketmaster. I've heard they suck, and this prooves it for me. |

Not to mention the $7.50 service charge PLUS $3.50 "order processing fee." A service charge IS an order processing fee for Christ's sake!

Thankfully Ticketmaster sent me an email saying they are taking off the $2.50 international charge that I shouldn't have been charged with in the first place. Wow! I may celebrate before the show with a kids meal from wendy's. |

Ashville is beautiful. Trees and (by eastern US standards) mountains. The Biltmore mansion is around there, right? Have fun.
I just want to say here and now, in Thrasher Magazine, that I did not kill Mr. Stitcha. |

Yes, the Biltmore estate is in Asheville. I live about 15 minutes from it. But I've never been in it. It was too expensive when I contemplated it. I'll go someday. |

Tom Waits needs to go on tour more often, and come to the northeast. |

Amazing show! I'm so glad I decided to go. Great setlist, with some songs that I would have never expected, and to top it all off, he played "Invitation to the Blues" on the piano. I was a little disappointed that he didn't use the pump organ at all that was sitting over on the right side of the stage, but oh well. The seats were HIGH, but not too bad, and a couple sitting in front of me was nice enough to share their binoculars. All in all, it was well worth the $66.00.
On a side note, Tom's voice is getting RASPY!

I'm stuck at home recovering from a fourth (and hopefully final) surgery on my shoulder and hip.. I promised myself I wasn't going to leave my house and risk bumping my shoulder or do anything that could comprimise the success of this operation. Unless it is a medical emergency, I AM NOT TO LEAVE MY HOUSE UNDER ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES FOR THE NEXT FOUR TO SIX MONTHS!!! Then a friend called me and informed me that he got tickets to Tom Waits in Chicago, and he wanted me to have a ticket. Of all the freakin' concerts I could have turned down without hating myself afterwards, why Tom Waits?! Why now?! Why couldn't he have come around six months from now?!!! WHY?!!!! Fuck it. We leave from Minneapolis on Tuesday. It's going to rock. No regrets.

Nevermind. Ticketmaster cancelled our order and didn't feel free to notify us. No Tom Waits for Dietr. But I'm glad you got to go, NimrodsSon. Hopefully I'll get to see him next time around.
