Yeah, liquor laws are too darned strict here in North America. I think Canada is bad, but 21 is just ridiculous. But you can't blame the guys for having to obey the law, it's a big fine and/or a potentially lost license.
Still, I feel bad for our protagonist here and hope he finds a way of seeing/hearing.

i have to say if you do use an id, make sure that you know everything on that thing backwards and forwards. even know the "sign" that goes with it. i am not saying you should do it... but.... |

Aww boo, that sucks. Maybe if you hang around the venue all night, you'll be able to tell Chucky your story of woe when he's loadin' the van and he'll take pity on you, and give you a private show. But not in a dirty way. Ew, I just creeped myself out.

That's tough. You did your best, getting in touch with the manager and all. It's not the end of the world, surely he'll be around again and hopefully at an all-ages venue.

You sound like you've all given up! Mr Manager says no, so what? We knew that from the start. I trust you're still going to try and get in anyway? Course you are. Just don't go dressing like a teenager and I imagine you'll be fine. Surely they don't go checking every single person who looks twenty years old? No one's that finicky.

The best way to get in if you haven't got a good fake ID or don't look old enough is at gun point. You may be on the run from the law after, though.

Lots of legal issues. They aren't indemnified if the 20 year old then causes a car accident. We Americans have a very litigious society.
Beachcomber only fits a couple hundred people. I think it would be a tough crash. |

You know, hanging out back by the stage doesn't sound so bad. The guy says you can hear it pretty good. Bring a towel, some snacks, a friend, lay back, close your eyes, and enjoy the tunes.

my only friend who likes FB will be away on a hippie rafting trip, and I dont think I can convince anyone else to go. THis is alright, though, as I sort of wanted to go by my lonesome anyway, im probably gona get all emotional like a girl.
On a side note, I just found out that Mose Allison is playing a free show at a Cape Cod Inn in about 2 weeks! Hell yah! Not to mention the CSNeil Young show on Thursday. And then Bela Fleck, maybe Bobby Bare JR, and Gordon Stone every week to keep me busy for the rrest of the summer. So things arent so bad. But FB is the icing on the cake. Aw hell, he is the cake! |

Okay so i also have the same dilema. Not only will i have to drive 7 hours from south carolina to lexington, ky, i'll also only be 18 at the time of the show. does anybody know how strict the dame in lexington is? i also think i'll use the plan of getting my parents to come with me and get me in, then possibly let them leave once they get me in. i really don't want to end up making a 7 hour treck to cry outside of a club i can't get into. |

If your parents are willing to drive 7 hours to a show, be shown the door, and then drive back 7 hours then they deserve a medal or better hobbies. |

The Chickasaw Mudd Puppies played Boulder Colorado when I was 18. I was horrified it was 21 & up. I stole my boyfriends, brothers wife's birth cert and SSN card, and I went to the DMV. They actually gave me an ID with my pic and her 411.
That show was rad! She shortly took that ID away from me.
You can always borrow someones ID that you look remotely like. I did that at a Specials show once. However, when he asked where I was from, I replied "El Cajon" only I pronounced it 'cajun' like I like Cajun food. He just pointed to the door... :( Shit, the girl had just started where I worked. I had never been to San Diego.. Hell! I didn't know.
But.. if you really have the balls... use your parents.. and try your hand and make up to make you look older! hahaha
What is your level of dedication?

uhh, I would consider myself pretty dedicated, 9/10. The only thing holding me back is that I have a tendency to get arrested rather that simply being turned down.... which is why I am banned from the Tweeter Center for life! |

Frank has always been generous to talk to fans outside, after shows- find his bus you may get lucky...I am not sure he would help if you saw him before though.
I am not familiar with the bar, but my friends and I always snuck in shows- typically because they were sold out, by either painstakingly redrawing a stamp or having saved all of our different colors of armbands to appear as if we were "re-entering." Maybe even have a friend scout the place and maybe bribe one at a exit/entrance, once inside, to look the other way.
Dont make it obvious and make a big deal of it and there will be a way in. |
