Just had a question I thought someone might know about. Two of my all time favorite song writers have been Frank Black and the Pogues. I just clued in recently that Frank Black "and the Catholics" might be a sly homage to Shane MacGowan "and the Popes". The idea just rubbed me the right way and when I noticed that Frank was covering 'Dirty Old Town' on his upcoming release it led more credence to the speculation. Just curious if anyone knows if Frank's a Pogues fan?

The boys from Providence are Catholic. I think that's why.

i asked him is he was covering the pogues version or an older version. all he said was "the pogues huh?" not very informative. but yeah, i asked because i was trying to gauge whether or not he was a big shane fan.

Their better know as the Pouges in Ireland rather than the popes. Pogue is a variation on the Gaelic Irish Phrase "Póg Mo Thoin" which means
"Kiss my ass" in english.

Interesting: "Pog Mo Thoin"....I wondered what that whole Pogues Mahone thing was about. Just a play on words I see. I could have cried when I missed the Pogues' Eastern U.S. shows....alas I was unemployed at the time and couldn't come up with the cash to commute to Boston. I'm getting a bit old for the hitch hiking. If MacGowan passes on before I get to see him I'm sure I'll look back on that missed show as one of my biggest regrets. Cheers.

I heard somewhere that Shane was supposedly trying to cut back on the drink. He might have said it on the Late Late Show, but i wouldn't know since i haven't watched that show since Pat Kenny took it over.
I don't hate Pat, it just so happens that he is the demon seed of the antichrist.
Which is a weird thing for an atheist to say!

Had you seen him on it Carl?
Or do you too spend your friday nights throwing holy water at the TV and sheilding the eyes of children.

"My..next guest..." *whirr* *click*

I hadn't heard that SM was giving up drink, he always seems to have a glass in his hand when he performs on a TV show!! I've told this little story before, but he came into a hotel newsagent I was working in a few years back, and before he turned around, I thought he was some dodgy, drunk, tramp-like geezer....er, actually....

I heard it third hand so it's probably bullshit.
That Kenny picture creeps the shit out of me. In that pic he reminds me of Ray wise as Leyland Palmer in Twin Peaks

By the way:
That gum you like is going to come back in style.

"This is a formica table. Green is it's color."
Michael Andersons, check him out in Carnivale.

I made a video parody of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (TOMKAT for those of you who know who you are) using twin peaks as a basis.
Once i get it on the net i'll give the address somewhere here.
