Spring is here, so what do you guys do about it? I know that in sunny California, there's no such thing, it's always summer, but here in the great white north, spring is a big deal where we come out of hibernation. I'm thinking of taking up biking more regularly; I can't bike to work 'cause I don't quite live in town, so just recreational. And I'll probably put together a soccer/football team. But I'd like to do something different/fun, too. Any ideas? What do you guys do when the weather gets nice?

I go out running earlier in the morning. Running in the dark is so bleeding miserable. I guess we go walking with the kids more as well. The last couple of weekends we've been able to go on nature trails with them. When it gets a bit drier we'll maybe try taking them up a couple of big hills as well.

Go to festivals and get drunk.

I actually get less active in the summer.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

Hahaha, yeah I could see that being me over there, too. The other night we went out and I swore I wasn't drinking and next thing I know it's 4 AM and I'm waiting to be sober enough to drive home.

Llama, never could get into running. I don't have the endurance or patience for it, I guess. Running in the dark does sound a little depressing but at least it keeps you moving when there could be stuff lurking in the bushes. :)

I refuse to run for nothing.
There's must be something else (like a ball and a goal keeper to defeat).

I was once running down by the loch in the dark, complete silence apart from the waves, then this bloody seagull let out a great squawk, and I just about shat myself. The dark does funny things to your mind.
In terms of patience, it takes about 3 times as long on a bike to get the same aerobic benefit as you do while running. It's much harder on a bike to get your heart rate up to a decent level. Biking has the benefit of avoiding impact injury.

My friends and i have joked about starting a Ramones cover band, getting leather jackets and tight jeans and playing their old set - 33 songs in 66 minutes. If we did that every day, we'd loose weight simply by sweating it out.

So, if we follow through with that, that will be my spring time 'get into shape' exercise.

Since daylight saving time started, I've been biking 16-20 miles after work (resting every third day). On weekends I do more. Cycling seems to be the only exercise (other than hiking and sex) that keeps me interested. I'm now under 220 lbs. for the first time since the '90s. When I hit 205 I'm rewarding myself with a new bike.

I generally run as often as I can motivate myself. However, I was raised playing tennis with my family and at school, and picked it up again after about 10 years off. It is so nice on a cool, sunny spring morning to get out and play.

well being the only south hemispherian to reply, i have to say i am really looking forward to winter. temps have finally maxed out in the low 30 degrees celcius. 4 months of high 30's and into mid 40's really gets ya down.

winter will bring forth lots more sitting outside and utilising the bbq. also, running again, ah, how i miss it.
and most importantly, being able to go outside without feeling like you're living inside a big oven.

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian
