This just popped into my head as something I don't recall ever discussing on here. What are some great things you've done or heard of doing on a date? What have you always wanted to do but never have?
I actually don't think I've ever done a "Dinner and a Movie" date in my life, so I may have to get that cliche out of the way sooner or later.

That cliche, Dean, is a dangerous one for a first date. A movie is a terrible place to get to know someone. That's a much better 4th-5th date.
The dates i've most enjoyed were simple - like going out to dinner and taking a walk, or going to a show or something.

Pick up a copy of Days of Thunder, a bag of beef jerky and a twelver of Natural Light and you're in like flynn.

I took a girl to see Last Exit to Brooklyn, I think on a first date. It was a bit of a shock.

Well, I guess the reason the dinner/movie thing is so popular is that if it goes poorly over dinner, you don't have to do much talking after. Take her to a movie, then drop her off. If it goes well, you go fo a coffee or beverage after the show and talk some more.
But I don't think I'd ever want to do that on a first date anyway, not only because, well, the point in my mind is getting to know the person better, and also it sort of lacks originality.
I once went for lunch with a girl and then we went flying around the city. I don't think that was an especially wise idea either. Plus, lunch dates... hmmm... it was never going anywhere from the start. But how else do you date someone that works nights? :)
Beef Jerky: Check! Last Exit to Brooklyn: Check! Best date ever: Hmmm.... :)
Going to see a potentially upsetting movie on an early date is quite a risk, actually, how'd that turn out?

Well, we had meant to go and see something else, but for some reason ended up going to that one. We were together for about 3.5 years :D

I once went on a first (and last) date with a girl to see Bowling for Columbine.
That was interesting

The best dates I've been on were the ones where the roofies kicked in really quickly. I hate waiting for the girl to pass out.
I was watching the Lisa Loeb show on E! one day and they were talking about these informal dates where you go to the laundromat or do other kinds of errands with someone- there's less pressure, plus, if you don't have a good time, at least you got stuff done.
Watching it I realized that a girl had taken me out twice on those "errand dates" only I was too stupid to realize it. Now it all makes sense and she really did like me. I'm so dumb.

Do tell, Brian, do tell.
You bet Frog. I even wrote her a song. You want to hear it? :P Nah, just more of a general query, really. You know, for that rainy day when I meet some girl who says, "No WAY! I love Frank Black too" and can name a song (I'm just kidding, that's not in the criteria, but it wouldn't hurt). Actually, I went out with a girl once and we started talking music and she asked who I liked and I kind of told her she probably wouldn't have heard of anyone I'd name, but that it was not really mainstream stuff. She insisted, so I named Frank Black. Then she's like, "With... The Catholics? Right?" At which point I nearly had to take her on an immediate errand date to do my laundry. I later found out she'd googled my name and done a little reading here. Not sure if I was flattered or insulted. Probably flattered, I guess.
I can't imagine EVER taking someone on an errand date unless she was my girlfriend at which point, okay, we both have to get some stuff done, why not do it together? I suppose on the plus side, there's no shift away from all this romance and intrigue once things get settled, 'cause you're already as boring as you'll be once you're a couple. :)

I have always wanted to f*ck on a first date. Sadly, I never have. Now I am married. Damn it.

You went with Alan Partridge? I hate to tell you this, Homers, but I think he was making a play for her! Even the owl noticed it!!

i can only think of 1 "date" i ever went on. it was unfortunate as she had really bad breath. thats the lasting impression it made on me. oh, and we went and saw man on the moon. great movie it was too.
i never went on a date with mrs benji. i think it took a good few months into our relationship until we actually spent any time together when we weren't completely drunk. i was just stoked she remembered who i was.
well, maybe not. the first "what you could perhaps call a date" date we had was when we played each other our favourite movies at her flat. the movie i bought along was chasing amy, which i thought was a pretty decent choice at the time. however i was certainly put in my place when she turned up with bad boy bubby... the rest is history.
all i can say, thank god for polio! brian |

Dates when you work nights are harder. I worked nights and it takes longer because you can't see each other as much as you normally do. Can you invite her and a friend and comp some of their stuff?
As far as best dates go, I think the earlier ones are better if there's alchol involved. I just think that makes it easier for people to get to know each other.
I think some of my best dates w/ my hubby were when we were doing something- going for a walk, a bike ride, seeing a concert, going to an amusement park or traveling.
We decided to go to Memphis after we were dating about 6 weeks and I think that was the best long date I ever had.
Not like you have to spend a lot of money, but just doing something other than what we usally do which is vegging out. ;) |

I'm not going out on a date, I just thought it was an interesting topic. <clears throat>
I actually don't often work nights these days, just when needed/weekends, and even then maybe only Friday or Saturday. But there was a girl I went out with once that was working nights.
I actually had a girlfriend while working the restaurant regularly and it was a great way to get to know each other as she'd come in late and we'd pretty much just talk for hours. There are worse ways to date.
Anyway, don't want everyone getting their hopes up that they'll be rid of me soon or anything. :)

The 'b' is capitalized and there's an unspoken 'y' right before the last 'a'. We're... familiar... with each other.

I think a great idea for a date would be to slap your chumbawumbas in the girls hand and see what happens. If she isn't deepthroating you in minutes, it's her loss. Go home and drink yourself to sleep, which, lets face it, is much more fun than going on a date.

the best dates have no plans
park the car and walk down your local sprawling nightlife city
(here it would be downtown long beach or the 3rd st. promenade)
hold hands, smell the smells of good food, walk into a bar for a quick drink, get a bite at a restaraunt you didn't know existed.
these are the best |
