Thanks for the interview tip/link, guys.
Great interview with Frank- A little condescending towards the younger musician. I understand what he's saying, and I think he had a great time playing with them nashville cats but, oh nevermind. I don't know nothing.

I don't think he was being condescending towards younger musicians as much as he was poking fun at himself when he first started Pixies and commenting on how that's kind of the mindset some of us younger folks have when first getting into songwriting. I definately related to what he was saying, being a twenty-something musician who relates to most of what he was describing. And I've never noticed him twitching his nose like that before, but I do the same thing, and have since I was a little kid. Of course, with Frank finally settling down and having a family, I think this is the prime time to start rumors about Frank cutting lose and secretly living the Rock & Roll lifestyle, including doing a lot of coke. (That's a joke, just in case anybody tries to take me seriously.)

"I'm still a teenager trapped in an aging body."
Boy, does that resonate with me. I'm 39 years old, and I'm trying to get my first band together. LOL. I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years but never had the chance to really play with other musicians. Back when I was just starting out myself and some friends jammed a bit and it was fun, but even then I was the most proficient at my instrument, and I sucked badly. We didn't sound very good and I didn't gain much from the experience. Now, I obviously have very specific and realistic goals here. I'm not looking to be a rock star at this point in my life. I just want to make some noise playing a bunch of choice covers with some other players and if we can get a gig or two somewhere around town, great. But FB describes exactly the way I feel. I don't really feel inside any different than I did 15 years ago. I'm just an old guy on the outside. Aging is a funny thing. When I was young, anyone over thirty seemed to be so much different - more mature, less cool, whatever. Now here I am a middle-aged guy and I still love to play videogames, still wanna be in a rock band, still like wathcing stupid action movies. I'd say I was just an immature old guy if it wasn't for the fact that most of my friends are much the same way. |

I'm 30, and I've been writing songs for years. And I've only played three gigs, not with my own band, as it were!!
