Anyone else read this book by Ben Sisario? It's a history/analysis/interpretaion essay (about 118 pages long) of Doolittle...part of the 331/3 series of books put out by Continuum International. It has some new cool qoutes and recollections from all Pixies, sans Kim. She refused to be included. There is a great story from Lovering who recounts a 'haunted' skeleton key that tortured him in Europe...hilarious! Although the author sometimes became biased (at least it was in favor to Pixies) on random points, it is a rather enjoyable read. It's neat to see the ACTUAL meanings of the songs coming straight from Charles's mouth...although I still hold my own interpretations as correct! That's the beauty of music and lyric...and if anything, reading this book made me spin my Doolittle CD for the first time in about a year, and rediscover just how fucking cool it is.
Yeah, I read it and was really impressed, as much with the book as the 33 1/3 concept. I'm happy there are people out there willing to consider contemporary music/lyrics as art. Frank Black seems a perfect subject for such scrutiny and analysis.
