Sorry if this has been up before, my search feature is, as they say, buggered.
I went to see these guys the other night at the CIA, and i have to say i was pretty impressed. I'd definitely go and see them again judging on the performance, but there was one thing that irked me. It was a seated show, and we were sat just behind an isle at floor level (great seats :D). I found that during, mostly the first half of the show, there were a LOT of people wandering out half way through songs to get beers. It seemed to me pretty disprespectful of the band...
It's the first tribute band i've seen, and i've never found that a lot of people wander out during "real" band shows, and i was just thinking have people found this is the case with a lot of tribute shows, or did i just get a bad one? Cause if the crowds are all like that i don't think i'd go again...
Who said anything about carving you up, man? I just wanted to carve a Z into your forehead... |

My dad went to see them, not wholly willingly, a couple of years ago. He said they were surprisingly brilliant.
Didn't they buy all the original Floyd stage sets?
About the bad crowd, I think that's just the luck of the draw. All it takes is one loser to make a concert go bad. All it takes is one kick to the shins to make the loser go away though I find. |

I do feel though, in general, that an audience would think of a tribute band as sort of like, robots covering their favorite songs. If the band were to interpret them their own way, they'd cease being a tribute band, so there is no deviation, but its not David Gilmour taking the solo, its some other guy. So i suppose people disrespect the musicians more flippantly than they would if it was actually Floyd up there. Personally, i don't think i'd ever pay to see a tribute band, but if i did, i would try and be respectful.

My friend Paul is in a Floyd tribute band in California (www.whichonespink.com). He has been doing it for almost 10 years now, and I am amazed that they still pack houses. I have a copy of one of their live shows and I gotta say that the audience was respectful.
Even though Paul is a dead ringer for Roger Waters, I honestly don't really get the whole tribute band thing. I think the only way I would see a tribute band is if I knew someone in the band. |
