Two years since they reformed for the first time in more than a decade, the Pixies will reactivate for seven European shows in July. What happens after that is anybody's guess, according to guitarist Joey Santiago. "It will be an organic process, I guess," he tells Billboard.com. "After these shows, should we continue on? Should we let it rest? We really don't know."

The prospect of a new Pixies studio album is also in limbo, Santiago admits. "I'd only be interested if it happens in an organic manner; if all our schedules are aligned and we're all feeling it," he says. "That's the only reason to do it."

For the upcoming gigs, which begin July 14 in Trencin, Slovakia, the Pixies "sought out places we haven't been before," according to Santiago. "We actually looked at a map while we were doing the last tour in Japan." The guitarist says it is too early to speculate if any vintage tunes will be added to the set list, but acknowledges one particular song has frequently been the subject of a request.

"There's always a sign out in the crowd for 'Dig for Fire,'" he says of the track, which has not been played on the reunion tour. "That would be a good challenge. We used to do that live but I don't know how we did it. There's a lot of overdubs on that one."

Santiago and Pixies drummer David Lovering were in Austin, Texas, last week for the premiere of the Pixies documentary "loudQUIETloud." "I was a nervous wreck and I kept calling my wife," Santiago says with a laugh. "It was so out of character for me to even be down there. But in the end it was good closure for me."

The artist says he's blissfully unaware of the Pixies' influence over modern-day rock acts, and is only ever made aware of soundalikes "if someone points it out to me. When we were recording that stuff, my main idea was, if it's been done, you can't really do it again. I had a deduction process and I think everybody else did too. Can't do that, can't do that, so you do something else. That's probably why we still sound so original."

With vocalist/guitarist Frank Black prepping for the June 20 release of the double album "Fastman/Raiderman," Lovering pursuing his magic career and bassist Kim Deal working on demos for the next Breeders album, Santiago is busy scoring the Canadian documentary "Radiant City," which is about planned housing.

"It's not a very exciting topic, but it's a big topic up there," he chuckles. "I put the groove down first."

i have a feeling, between this and FB's remarks about the Pixies album being unlikely, that everyone is ready to put the Pixies to bed.

Cool. That'll give Joey free time to play on Frank and EDF's record. Now who's telling Nick Vincent to join them?

Perhaps he meant that it was a way to say goodbye to the rough times he'd apparently had for a few years.

Pixies have admitted that they’re unsure about their future plans after the summer.

The band are playing a string of European shows in July, but don’t know what’s going to happen after that.

Speaking about events after the summer, Joey Santiago said: “It will be an organic process, I guess. After these shows, should we continue on? Should we let it rest? We really don't know."

Moving onto the eagerly-anticipated album, Santiago also sounded equally unsure. He told billboard: "I'd only be interested if it happens in an organic manner; if all our schedules are aligned and we're all feeling it. That's the only reason to do it."

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Two years since they reformed for the first time in more than a decade, the Pixies will reactivate for seven European shows in July.

What happens after that is anybody's guess, according to guitarist Joey Santiago. "It will be an organic process, I guess," he told Billboard.com. "After these shows, should we continue on? Should we let it rest? We really don't know."

As for a new Pixies studio album, Santiago said, "I'd only be interested if it happens in an organic manner; if all our schedules are aligned and we're all feeling it. That's the only reason to do it."

For the upcoming gigs, which begin July 14 in Trencin, Slovakia, the Pixies "sought out places we haven't been before," according to Santiago. "We actually looked at a map while we were doing the last tour in Japan."

The guitarist said it was too early to speculate if any vintage tunes would be added to the set list, but acknowledged one particular song has frequently been the subject of a request.

Santiago and Pixies drummer David Lovering were in Austin, Texas, last week for the premiere of the Pixies documentary "loudQUIETloud" at the South By SouthWest Film Festival.

"I was a nervous wreck and I kept calling my wife," Santiago said with a laugh. "It was so out of character for me to even be down there. But in the end it was good closure for me."

The artist said he was blissfully unaware of the Pixies' influence over modern-day rock acts, and is only ever made aware of soundalikes "if someone points it out to me. Pixies back in Europe

(Thursday March 23, 2006 11:51 AM)

The Pixies have announced details of a string of new shows in Europe this summer.

The reformed rock'n'roll legends will play seven dates in July, including the Benicassim Festival in Spain and shows in more obscure areas of the continent.

However, their long-term future remains very uncertain, as the band explained in a new interview with Billboard this week.

Guitarist Joey Santiago admitted he is unsure what the future holds. He said: "It will be an organic process, I guess. After these shows, should we continue on? Should we let it rest? We really don't know."

Speaking about the possibility of a new Pixies record, Santiago continued: "I'd only be interested if it happens in an organic manner; if all our schedules are aligned and we're all feeling it. That's the only reason to do it."

The new tour dates are as follows:

July 2006

14 Trencin, Slovakia (Pohoda)
15 St. Polten, Austria (Nuke)
16 Zagreb, Croatia (Salata)
19 Toulon, France (Voix de Gaou)
20 Lisbon (Atlantico)
21 Benicassim, Spain (Bennicasim Festival)
23 Carhaix, France (Les Veilles Charrues)

Meanwhile, the band debuted their forthcoming documentary, "loudQUIETloud" at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas last week, which follows the reformation of the Pixies since 2003

Pixies announce summer tour

But their future is uncertain

Pixies
have announced details of a European tour set for this summer.

Two years since the band reformed, the legends are to hit the road for seven shows in July.

However, according to guitarist Joey Santiago, the future for the band is uncertain.

"It will be an organic process, I guess," he said. "After these shows, should we continue on? Should we let it rest? We really don't know."

For fans expecting a new Pixies' studio album, Santiago has also warned them not to hold their breath.

"I'd only be interested if it happens in an organic manner," he told Billboard. "If all our schedules are aligned and we're all feeling it. That's the only reason to do it."

Pixies will kick off the summer shows in Slovakia on July 14 before heading to such place as Austria and Croatia, as the band "sought out places we haven't been before" the guitarist said.

Although Santiago would not give any clues as to what songs the band would be playing, he did say that one track they didn't perform last time round is always in popular demand.

"There's always a sign out for that in the crowd for 'Dig For Fire'," he said. "That would be a good challenge. We used to do that live but I don't know how we did it. There's a lot of overdubs on that one."

The guitarist is currently scoring a Canadian documentary called 'Radiant City', while singer Frank Black will release his solo album 'Fastman/Raiderman' on June 19. Bassist Kim Deal is demoing tracks for the next Breeders album, while drummer Dave Lovering is continuing his magic career.

Pixies European tour will call at:

Trencin Pohoda (July 14)
St Polten Nuke (15)
Zagreb Salata (16)
Toulon Voix de Gaou (19)
Lisbon Atlantico (20)
Benicassim Festival (21)
Carhaix Les Veilles Charrues (23)

Pixies to hit the road this summer, but future is uncertain

By Trent McMartin Mar 24, 2006, 16:08 GMT

Alt-rock legends the Pixies have announced plans for a European tour scheduled for this summer. The Boston band will be playing seven shows this upcoming July, including a headlining spot at Spain's Benicassim Festival July 21.

However, this new tour doesn't mean the band is planning to head back into the studio anytime soon to record the highly anticipated follow-up to 1991's Tromp Le Monde

"I'd only be interested if it happens in an organic manner," said guitarist Joey Santiago to Billboard about a new album. "If all our schedules are aligned and we're all feeling it. That's the only reason to do it."

Pixies will kick off the summer tour in Slovakia on July 14 before heading to Austria and Croatia.

Pixies European tour dates:

Trencin Pohoda (July 14)
St Polten Nuke (15)
Zagreb Salata (16)

Lisbon Atlantico (20)
Benicassim Festival (21)

Pixies set Europe tour, future plans in limbo

24 March 2006

NEW YORK: Two years since they reformed for the first time in more than a decade, the Pixies will reactivate for seven European shows in July.

"There's always a sign out for that in the crowd for Dig for Fire," he said of the track, which has not been played on the reunion tour. "That would be a good challenge. We used to do that live but I don't know how we did it. There's a lot of overdubs on that one."

When we were recording that stuff, my main idea was, if it's been done, you can't really do it again. I had a deduction process and I think everybody else did too. Can't do that, can't do that, so you do something else. That's probably why we still sound so original."

With vocalist/guitarist Frank Black prepping for the June 20 release of the double album Fastman/Raiderman, Lovering pursuing his magic career and bassist Kim Deal working on demos for the next Breeders album, Santiago is busy scoring the Canadian documentary Radiant City, which is about planned housing.

"It's not a very exciting topic, but it's a big topic up there," he chuckled. "I put the groove down first."
