Good call, Oldmanoty. Other classical pieces that have blown my mind: Mozart's 40th Symphony and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overtures. True, both are also classical cliches, but for good reason. The latter is especially interesting in the way that it incoroporates La Marseillaise, the national anthem of France. (The first time I heard the 1812 Overture, though, I wondered how Tchaikovsky managed to sample the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love.")

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

The greatest national anthem of them all.

Right now I am in awe of Between The Bars, Metric's acoustic version rather than Elliott Smith's album version.

Emily Haines has a beautiful voice, but the guy's guitar playing ruined it for me. Elliott is a genius.

Speaking of Elliott Smith, I've always been in awe of "The Biggest Lie". Have you heard the Bright Eyes cover? It's pretty good, despite Conor Oberst sounding scared as shit, and the bad guitar solo.

Yeah, it's Emily Haines voice, I hadn't really noticed the guitar too much.

I love Elliott Smith too, and I don't know if it's because I haven't listened to Either/Or for ages, but I went back to listen to that and his voice seems too produced/layered. Even a live version I have isn't as good.

He sounds best lo-fi, like on Roman Candle and his self-titled album, imo.

Like a pigeon on a tyre maybe?

Today I'm in awe of Starblood by Cranes, the only song I've ever passed out to.

Haaaaaahaa, I love spam that tries to be relevant.

A new one for the list would be "Katy Song" by Red House Painters. I've no idea how a song 8 minutes long that simple still manages to floor me on the 100th listen.
