CARLING WEEKEND: READING & LEEDS FESTIVALS LINE-UP REVEALED
As NME predicted, this summer's bash is going to be a classic...
The big names for THE CARLING WEEKEND: READING AND LEEDS FESTIVALS 2005 have been confirmed, NME.COM can reveal.
This year's bash takes place between August 26 and 28 at Richfield Avenue in Reading and Bramham Park in Leeds and will see Pixies, Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age headline over the three days.
"I can't wait to play Reading this year," Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl told NME of returning for the band's second headline appearance. "The festival has always been a really good show for us and I'm looking forward to playing there again this year."
Joining these bands in the first wave of the line-up announcement are big hitters including The Killers, Pixies and Elbow, who along with the headliners were correctly predicted by NME back at the beginning of the year.
With Pixies bagging an impressive slot below headliners Pixies - somethingPixies' spokeswoman admitted they were "very excited about" as they're all massive Pixies fans - the majority of this year's NME Awards Tour bands will also play the event.
There's something of a tour reunion happing on at second stage on Friday in Leeds and Sunday in Reading with Razorlight and Coral playing together.
Other bands joining them at The Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals include Iron Maiden, Babyshambles and Libertines.
Additionally, the festival's traditional rock day (Friday in Leeds and Sunday in Reading) is among its strongest ever with British metal veterans Queens Of The Stone Age and Marilyn Manson topping the bill.
[a][/a], who were also among NME's predictions in February, have been confirmed too, and Pete Doherty admitted after missing out last year with [a][/a], he can't wait for August.
"I am especially looking forward to these shows," he explained. "They are obviously quite special to me after what happened last year."
