Weirdly enough, I was just talking to a friend-bandmate of mine about how similar early Pavement and Grandaddy covers look..

I think the G'Daddy were/are big Pavement fans.. they did cover 'Here' as the B-side for 'AM180', after all..

I'm really in love with Grandaddy these times a shame that they broke up There's a chance I'll see Jason Lytle live in amsterdam next week.

I have heard the new album now and it's quite good need to give it a few more spins for a better review.
I saw Jason Lytle yesterday, playing a promo-gig on a dutch radio/internet-show. He played El caminos in the West, Levitz, Under The Weeping Willow and Disconnecty. After that he was asked some questions: Who's your grandson, what are you going to do on sundays now? He seemed totally out of place I catched him at the bar, looking a bit sad, I gave him my own demo, just because he influenced my so much. He was a slow talker, smiling all the time, but I got the feeling he wasn't where he wanted to be. The thing that bugged my most is that he was announced as 'Grandaddy', I mean he's Jason Lytle! They didn't ask about a solo-career. He told me that he going to do stuff, because that's his natural thing to do.

wow, sounds cool bill. i heard he's moving to Montana. sounds like a plan to me.. i also heard that he stopped drinking. i take it he's no longer not drinking? i'm sure he'll keep making music.
i've been reading more stuff about them lately. i knew that Jason was into skateboarding, but didn't know that he was that serious about it. he used to be in contests all the time and was an up-and-comer but got injured (i forget his injury).. i like how on TODD ZILLA it says "skateboarding forever" in the liner notes. and then there's the new song on the new record "slateboarding saves me twice" .. i guess he's been skating a lot.

he was certainly drinking yesterday I said: are you in a conversation? (when I approached him) and he said: I'm in a conversation with my drink (coca cola with some liquor)
He also drank some beer during the quick concert. He mentioned drinking another time too.
Skateboarding saves me twice is an instrumental btw (besides some vocoder saying the title) Yesterday Jason got a skateboard as a lifetime achieving-award

Bill, do you know if the radio show has the gig on their site?
When I saw them a few years back (2003), the place was bordering on dead which bummed me out a bit. They deserved better. I mean, hearing some of their songs for the first time had the same effect on me as some of the Pixies material. Awesome songs. Turning up the volume on 'Chartsengrafs' because I thought the intro was too quiet only to be greeted by sweet sounding distortion is a happy memory. And a loud one. |

Birds come, is it? Correction much appreciated. I sing it wrong with passion, though.
Top man, Yop. Dank. I'll keep my ears peeled for the show.

The new issue of Magnet has an excellent, long, and incredibly depressing article about the breakup of Grandaddy.
