I have been listening to radio city alot recently and my god was a classic album..... im not into the beatles or byrds or any of that other stuff but alex chilton can sure write some class songs.... usually them type of jangley guitars annoy me..... I duuno what it is, probably the depression in the lyrics... like how about the lyrics in "back of a car"... fuckin hell...
The others album are great too! (I haven't listened to the last one with the Posies yet)
I was listening to Third Sisters this week, and it's incredible what this man has produced in this album. Kangaroo and Holocaust give me the shivers each time I listen to these ones.
I just can't understand how or why Alex Chilton's solo career is so pathetic (except some good songs) in comparison with what he did with Big Star. I mean, this men was a genius in the 60's and the 70's.
Well, I don't know if the 3rd is the best one, I'd rather say that it's different from the others... more depressed and chaotic maybe.
Yeah, the version of Kangaroo by Jeff Buckley is just one of the best covers I've ever heard in my life, it's brilliant.
The covers by This Mortal Coil of Big Star are great too (Kangaroo and Holocaust on "It'll End In Tears").
About his later stuff, I don't think he found happiness at all, I think this has more to do with booze and drugs, and maybe a real lack of inspiration... but I'm not in his mind.
I don't know if he lives in France now, but the last time I heard of him he was living in New Orleans and he refused to be evacuated during Katrina.
Sister Lovers isn't their best. It's interesting and has a few good tracks, but it's far too weird and depressed for me. However, the first two are absolutely great.
