Today I was going over some of my archives footage and I found a Tv appearance, probably Dennis Miller or Letterman or something like that....anyway, the guy who introduced the Pixies was holding a copy of Trompe le Monde packed in a very nice case, probably a carton box, it was very long ( like 2 cd's in height )...sort of like Pink Floyd's "The Wall - Live" if anyone knows what I'm talking about....who knows if that packaging contained extra stuff? like posters or whatever....
By the way, they then played Bird Dream....

It was David Letterman. Yeah, I was wondering about that too!

..Oh wait, Bird Dream? Must be Dennis Miller, but Letterman also had that cool, limited-edition-lookin' package! What the heck is it, anyone?!

Wasn't it very common for cd's to be presented in a longbox in the late 80's, when cd's became
interesting for a big crowd for the first time?

Yeah, probably just the CD longbox. I miss those. Some had nice wraparound artwork that made a cool square poster when cut along the vertical spine and opened up flat. They Might Be Giants' Lincoln was a good one I used to have on my wall in high school...

I believe they made those cd-longboxes for the benefit of the record stores, so they could still use the same old bins they previously used to present vinyl albums. Once every record store had changed their interior to fit cd's, the cd-longbox became redundant and died a silent death...
