I am listening to Honeycomb and I love it.
I appreciate some art because it is especially creative or new, or because it makes me think. This I like because... it is... close to me. It's like a comfortable bed, like a friend, like something good to eat. I have been having this relationship with Frank Black's music since the beginning of his solo career.
I am actually less interested by the Pixies. (More original, but less close.)
I wonder if many people have a similar experience. |

OK. Do you think you can also have these two different modes of appreciation, namely "original" on one side, and "close" on the other? Or isn't there any thing like that to you? Would you care to tell me a bit more?
I am someone who is known to have a more "objective" approach to some art. But I really don't in that case. If someone tells me they don't like Frank Black, I'm not going to say they are "wrong". Because, in this instance, I accept the fact that my appreciation is due to a correspondance to what I am.
But maybe I shouldn't be doing that? Maybe there is no such valid distinction? Maybe it feels close because it is good, and this "good" can be made more objective?
You tell me. (I posted to get your opinion on this.) |

Like slippers. Honeycomb is the slippers album, the pixies is the beaded thong, the solo years is the crazy purple glitter studded dog collar that you still wear happily round the house because you secretly think it is cool. I think the catholics stuff is more like a bobbly dressing gown. |

I swear to god I almost bought one yesterday but decided it was too silly. Now you're comparing the Pixies to such a thing. I don't know what to think.

Maybe you think the Pixies are silly? Thongs in general seem kind of silly to me, but hey, I'm male.

Did the title of this thread not seem a bit strange to anyone else?

Frank is okay to eat, but only once in a while. I couldn't imagine having him for lunch every day or anything.

Wait, does that mean it cannibalizes other threads?
