in some way, "the wall" is the most depressing album i know. of course it is just too much and super-kitsch sometimes, but at least it was surely meant to be the most depressing album ever.
two reelers - have you heard The Wall Demo album thats about? it can be downloaded from dimeadozen.org here in fact: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=64493
it's really very interesting for a fan of the wall.

anything by the Dirty Three. with 'i knew it would come to this' right at the top of the pile. sure, it has no vocals, but those D3 boys are geniuses.
sends shivers down my spine every time i listen to it.

Beautiful.
In the obituary for Arthur Russell in the Village Voice, Kyle Gann wrote, "his songs were so personal that it seems as though he simply vanished into his music."

I don't mean to take this to seriously, but as I was looking over the posts and thinking about the question, I think that it's very hard for a song to be "depressing". I think the closest any of the posts came to it was "Season's in the Sun", but even that is just sad. All I can think of is "Dust in the Wind" ( and I just want to make it clear that I hate that song).
I just think that all music, no matter how sad it might be, brings a reaction that is the opposite of depressing.
