So, what do people think of this stuff? Personally, I like it. I mean, it's familiar, and most of it is pretty fun. Listening to the stations that play nothing but Christmas music all month can be tedious, though, since they tend to play the same five songs over and over again. But then, the stations that do this are usually the easy listening/adult alternative stations that play the same five songs over and over again throughout the rest of the year, too.

Does anyone have any favorite or least favorite Christmas/winter/Decmember holiday songs? I feel I should mention that the Young Fresh Fellows do a kick-ass rendition of "O Little Town Of Bethlehem." And listening to that song about the kid who wants to buy shoes for his dying mom (apparently because, as Weird Al says, Heaven has a dress code) is akin to torture.

What Erebus said. I'd rather listen to the Pogues. No, wait. That may be going too far.

It's Christmassy, it's all good. We listen to the Yahoo Launchcast Christmas Rocks station at work, it has the Ramones you know.

You know what's great? 'Fairytale Of New York' by the Pogues.

I really like Mike Oldfields christmas tune 'In Dulci Jubilo'. Every year I tell myself that I'm gonna work out the guitar parts but never get round to it, until now that is! 2005 is the year I finally cracked it. Woohoo!

I suck at the guitar BTW, so it was no mean feat.

Does anyone get that channel on TV tht just plays carols just showing a log burning in a fireplace 24-7?

Last year in a fit of boredom I found where it looped.

Simon, I am afraid you posted in the wrong thread. (No need to feel ashamed, I do that all the time myself.) Please take those lyrics directly to the "worst song lyric fragment" thread.

The best Christmas song ever is obviously the Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping". I'm sure Brian will back me up on this.

Anything on the Low Christmas album is good for me. The Little Drummer Boy is ace.
Or, hurrah for Marah - their seasonal album's pretty good.

Using The Hype Machine (a thread which has been criminally overlooked) you can find all manner of seasonal songs posted by festive Bloggers.

And what Cheeseman said about Low. I also got Kristin Hersh's Holy single the other day, which is sort of festive.

Last Christmas
I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance
But just don't catch my eye
Tell me baby
Do you recognize me?
Well its been a year
It doesn't surprise me

I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I love you" - I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now
I know you'll fool me again

Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

A crowded room - Friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you, and your soul of ice
I thought you were someone to rely on
Me - I guess I was a shoulder to cry on

Face on her lover
With a fire in his heart
A man undercover
But she tore me apart
Now I've found a real love
You'll never fool me again

Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears

And you're only going to purgatory?

I don't care much for the 24-hour holiday songs on the radio.

I think Fear's, "Fuck Christmas" pretty much summed things up.
