Is it worth $50 to see the Pogues the night before Saint Patrick's Day in NYC? Post your thoughts.

If it's the original line up I'd say yes. They are one of those groups that I'd like to see before I'm gone, even if it is a schlocky reunion because the money is good. The price to pay because I missed the boat when they were around for real. They did some gigs in Ireland and the UK last year around the holidays and the reviews were pretty good as I remember. Is that their only U.S. show?

No, they are playing 6 nights in the US. I can't find confirmation of the lineup at all, and that is sort of what is holding me back. I mean, Kirsty MacColl (spelling?) is long dead, but i don't know how many others will be part of the show. Especially if Sir Shane will be there, then i may have to cough up that obscene price for a ticket.

I need to convert this to British money to make an informed judgement, so $50 is about.. 20p yes?

I'm kidding. It'll probably be a lot of fun Brian and you know you'll regret it if you don't.

Well, Cait O'Riordon who was on the first album only (and who Shane wrote the duet part in "Fairytale" initially for) was on last years bill as well as MacGowan so I assume it'll be the same. $50 sounds like a lot for some cut rate version of a band like that. And I don't think New Yorkers'd stand for a St. Patties Pogue show w/o Shane fronting them. It was the whole original band last year.

What else could you be doing that night instead, Bri?

You might also consider renaming this thread, oh, something like, I dunno, "I like the Pogues: Does this make me British?" or "Why do the Pogues suck so much?"

He's not Canadian...

Kirsty MacColl was never a member of the band as far as I know, she only did the one duet. You want a line up with Shane Mac and Cait O'Riordan, those are the two main attractions I think. I'm pretty sure Shane is doing them all these days.

His local, the Boogaloo, is not far from me, but I've yet to see him in there.

Kathryn, this is no place for you...

Shane is currently in the band. There's info on the forum at pogues.com.

I'd go if you've never seen them. Shane's been drinking himself to death for so long...there's no telling when he'll finally succeed.

once again, if my friends went to live shows, this wouldn't be an issue, i'd go in a heartbeat.

but i hate goign to ALL my shows alone. i don't mind stuff like Pixies because i'm going to flip out and scream my balls off anyway, but this sort of show a drinking mate would be nice

Can someone post the dates for this tour. If it's only east coast I may consider a St. Patrick vacation.

Can't people make up their mind as to whether a band selling out is a good or a bad thing?
