We already had a similar thread earlier in the year, but now that the year's almost over, I'm sure we can address the issue more accurately.

I'd say my Top Ten (in approximate order) would be:

1. The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
2. Frank Black - Honeycomb
3. Laura Cantrell - Humming by the Flowered Vine
4. The Decemberists - Picaresque
5. Carolyn Mark - Just Married: An Album of Duets
6. Rasputina - A Radical Recital
7. Tori Amos - The Beekeeper
8. They Might Be Giants - Here Come the ABCs
9. Hypnotic Clambake - Mayonnaise
10. Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman

The only other three new ones that I've heard this year (as far as I can remember) were the ones by the Posies, Johnny Hickman, and Erin McKeown.

Well, I only bought about three new albums this year, so I really can't say, but my favourite out of the ones I bought is Twin Cinema.

In no particular order (except the first):

Honeycomb-- Frank Black
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
The Decemberists - Picaresque
White Stripes- Get Behind Me Satan
Spoon- Gimme Fiction
Kings of Leon- (was that from this year?)
Broken Social Scene- Broken Social Scene

I know there's more but I am just forgetting.

Robert Pollard's Zoom is great, would have been the best album if it had been longer

Wow, 2 McCartney mentions. I thought it was uncool to appreciate McCartney (I say this as a person who loves Ram and enjoys many Wings songs). Is it really that good? I remember it coming out, but never heard/read any reviews.

Residents - Animal Lover
Sigur Ros - Takk

I also heard three very good songs off of this one:
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine

By the way Speedy, I downloaded Lightninghead to Coffepot and found it to be good, even great in parts (such as the song "Beaten by The Target"), but it was not as good as Half Smiles as far as I'm concerned.

no! Is it any good? I spend too much money on Pollard this year already and Circus Devil's 'Five' was extremely bad IMO, so no moping swans for me. Of course you think it's good because it's on your list, but still: what's so great about it?

I also like Half Smiles more, but it's always nice to hear more Bob. This project isn't really all that different than a GBV record, especially Beaten By the Target It's nice to hear Jimmy Mac playing drums again, I love his style. Have you heard Bob's new solo LP? Now that's something to get excited about...

I'm giving a third vote to Chaos & Creation In The Backyard. Dig up the b-sides to the album, too. They rock. Especially Growing Up Falling Down. It's not as good as McCartney or Ram, but it's damn fine.

Other favorites:
Honeycomb- The Man
Pixel Revolt- John Vanderslice (Find this and buy the hell out of it.)
Guero (Limited Edition)- Beck (This album rocks, but the b-sides/remixes on the Limited Edition are worth the purchase alone)
Margerine Eclipse- Stereolab (this year, right?)
Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production Of Eggs- Andrew Bird
Shinola- Ween (though all recorded before 2005)
Here Come The ABC's-TMBG (Screw the children. This album's for ME.)
Dynamite- Jamiroquai (I don't dance, but shit if this guy can't make you groove. Fun.)
Black Sheep Boy (w/ Appendix)-Okkervil River (Just hearing this one now for the first time, but it's already on my list)
Demon Days- Gorillaz

I know there are other albums, but they're not coming to my head right now.

does that count?

Who said that wasn't the context? Well, it wasn't, just in case anybody was wondering. I love TMBG's ability to appeal to any generation.

This will serve nicely to get me back up to speed on the music thing. For my part, given that I've not heard much released since May, I will still say (in no particular order):

Andrew Bird- The Mysterious Production of Eggs
Decemberists- Picaresque
Frank Black- Honeycomb
Franz Ferdinand- You Could Have It So Much Better...
Kaiser Chiefs- Employment
Sigur Ros- Takk

I'm interested to hear the new Fiery Furnaces, McCartney, Editors, and other bands I've not heard of. I did just buy the new BSS album and haven't formed an opinion quite yet.

Gwen Stefani's album will be in my top 10 (or at least some of the singles). Not the others though.
