I was looking for something beside music to listen to in my car, and for 2.99 I picked up an audio CD of Tom Wolfes 2000 book of essays "Hooking Up", 6 CDs.

It starts with an essay on what life is like in the year 2000, which is really interesting.
Then there's an essay on writing "A Man In Full" and all the critism that came from Norman Mailer, John Irving, and John Updike.

If you get a chance, grab it, it's fun to listen to, and it's a nice change from the same old songs on the radio and on CD.

"A Man In Full" was alright, but halfway through I lost interest and only read the parts about Conrad.

Screw Tom Wolfe. Read Thomas Wolfe. The first three paragraphs of Look Homeward, Angel alone are better then Tom's entire body of work.

Sorry, I have an unreasonable hatred of Tom Wolfe. I bought Hooking Up from the bargain table at Borders and it filled me with loathing. CUrrently, the man is out of touch with the youth of american. It reads as uninformed and condensending.

Bonfire was good, though. So was Right Stuff.

damn I'm bored.

"A Room of One's Own" by VW is good. A quick read.
