Hi Frank,
I hope you find the time today to post that brand new CDC/WHO report. We've grown to count on you.

Don't know the first thing about microbiology or epidemiology, but don't you think that at some point in this century something like this is in the cards? I'm certainly not claiming that 2006 is the year, or even that the worst is something for alarm (speaking evolutionarily of course), but surely this ancient dance of micro- and macro-beings will continue. |

This has got to be some sort of research about how long people will talk about a topic for or something. And btw Frank Lee, the pseudonym is from a frank black song about the Invaders, I guess you might relate to it currently but your hardly a "fist fighting crusader".. more like an annoying cunt. |

I just spent the last few moments reading this entire thread and I have to say it was really entertaining. Hilarious, even.
I passed a cow and the cow was brown. My pyjamas clung to me like a shroud! Like a shroud! |

Is this affecting anybody in a meaningful way? I mean, bird flu has now been discovered in France & Germany, and we have a few members from these countries.
I read yesterday that a virologist from a London university suggested it could mutate and spread human to human within 18 months. Is anyone more nervous about this than they were when Frank Lee was on his crusade? (incidentally, my wife is, and certainly a friend who keeps chickens is thinking of getting rid of them)
On a slightly related note, I was also reading yesterday that we are discovering human pathogens at a greater rate now than ever before. Mostly these are transferred from animals. Do you think it's because humans have over populated the earth? Maybe because it's getting warmer? Better detection? Do you care?

care no?
All that stuff was always there. Its only that we can detect more of all the different types of stuff that can kill us now. Media, hype, bullshit etc. SARS killed how many? bird flu has killed how many? less than 100 worldwide in both cases. Not everyone who gets birdflu dies (not close).. |

Better detection and the advantage of having the populous occupied with something to worry about. I'm not fretting, it's the ones that creep up without warning that I think are more concerning to be honest. Bird Flu will mutate to human to human transfer I don't think there is any question about it but until that happens there's not a lot can be done. Locking away your chickens is all well and good but when the pathogen spreads from human to human and not just vector to human it will have made little difference. |

I'm sorry to bring up a thread that is over a year old but the question must be asked: "Whatever happened with this?"
I remember reading this and thinking it was one of the funniest threads I'd read. I'm desperate to know after all this time, which forum member was really 'Frank Lee'?

Out of curiosity, who do you work for, Frank? Not just in this situation, but in general, for a living. Sorry if I missed it before.
That was the best line of the thread. It sounds like a Peter Sellers quote from The Party.

This is my favourite part...

Yes...but not this thread, over 900 hits, (could not possibly be from the same 5 or 6 people who keep SPAMMING it
I just took a quick look at some of the other threads and found people who have been talking about Catholics for the last two dozen entries after someone casualy mentioned Frank Black just to get the thread started....
Ok...FRANK BLACK, ses now I did it, so I can post about something totally unrelated if I want to, just like lots of other people...right?

I love this thread. Do you think Frank Lee will ever return?
