i got to start watching this more consistently. they got some really good shit on. it would be nice to be in the austin area to check out these acts live while they're filming. the first show i saw was when the pixies were on. that was really good. since then i've seen the flaming lips, beck, wilco, bright eyes, modest mouse. tonight spoon and the killers are on. ben fold was on last week. that was a real good show. i'm really starting to enjoy pbs. they have some other really good quality shows on. i'd love to see frank on there doing a non pixies show.

Speaking of which, can anyone link me to a torrent or something of the pixies ACL show. I happened to tune in in time to catch literally the last five seconds of the performance when it was on. Needless to say I was right pissed off...

I'm sure you can find it on Soulseek. I doubt there are still any active torrents.

got it. watched it. great stuff. Man, there is just nothing about that band that isn't cool. The fact that they have a chick on bass, the fact that the man is a chunky bald guy, the fact that they are all business on stage, the fact that a crappy axe man like myself can actually play a fair number of their songs, it's all coolness. I was at work and bored yesterday so I plummed the depths of the intarweb reading a bunch of old Pixies interviews and articles from back in the day and Charles and Joey truly sound like a couple of guys I could easily have hung out with in college. They are my age and it sounds like they have a nearly identical set of influences. Frank even mentions one of my favorite bands I love to hate (Journey) as being basically the antithesis of what he was interested in...not meaning to imply that I'm Joe cool becuase I'm like the guys in the Pixies. I've just always felt a certain "kinship" with the band - like I knew where they were coming from. Back when I first started playing guitar (around '90, when I was 22 or so - way too late for me to do anything with it. I wish so much that I'd started when I was 14 or so instead of so late) me and a few friends would get together and jam. Our "setlist" included Hey and Cactus (this was before the internet and instant access to guitar tabs for every song in creation and I'm quite proud of the fact that I was able to figure those out by ear and got it basically right). I actually wrote a "song" back then that had a chord progression and rythym remarkably similar to Smells Like Teen Spirit, lol. Sadly (and luckily) I'm not nearly angst-ridden enough to have beaten Kurt Cobain to the punch...
(I should mention that as far as bands go, my buds and I sucked like a hoover. A word of advice to aspiring rock stars who might be reading this - it takes WAY more than 8 or 10 hours of practice over a three month period to get "tight" lol)

I enjoyed your post z... the thing that struck me to most was the crazy 'thanks for coming to our show' from Kim
