Did anyone check this out? I did and I will tell you what...Austin is an amazing city! I cannot get that damn city out of my head since I returned from there! The vacation started out rough - I lost my hotel room that I reserved 7 months prior to Katrina hurricane victims; after extensive bitching I was able to obtain a FREE suite at the Hilton Downtown ($499 per night)and a free rental car! Well that kept alot more cash in my pocket to party and party I did! I went to probably 20-30 bars, restaurants and nightclubs in my 5 days and spent a month worth of income on booze, food and partying.
The festival was awesome! No search at the door! Carried in my Camelback filled with Ruby Red and Stoli (1/2 Gallon drinks are nice!) and a backpack with ALOT of party favors. I got to see Built To Spill, Spoon (met and autographed my Kill the Moonlight!), Decemberists, Ambulance LTD, Dios, John Prine, Mike Doughty, Death Cab For Cutie, Doves, Arcade Fire & Wilco. And everyday when my giant cocktail ran out - I simply pulled out my stoli bottle and purchased a couple lemon shake ups and voila - instant cocktails! Also got to meet Gwyneth Paltrow - she was sitting in a golf cart with her baby; talked to her for a couple minutes, seemed nice but didn't have much to talk about because I hate her movies and her husband's band.
It was super freakin' hot on Sunday the temperature was 111+ ouch. It was hard to stay very long at the festival because of the heat and dust and because the Warehouse & Entertainment districts are a fucking blast! I think I would like to move to this town. No more snow. Great music. No sports teams! And everyone is just generally nice. And the whole bats thing - weird! (Austin Texas is home to the largest Urban bat population in the world - 15 million bats! Which means No Insects!)
Austin has completely impressed me; and I am not easily impressed - being a seasoned traveler! If you ever have the opportunity to go to Austin, then go and you will be rewarded with a good time! |

Plus, their basketball and baseball teams are often the among the best in the country. And, there's a AAA baseball team in Round Rock.

I´ve got friends from there here, it sound like a great town, the intellectual oasis of Texas from what I hear.

I used to live in Austin. It's a cool city (well, not temperature-wise). If you can overcome the fact that it's surrounded by Texas, it's a great place to live.
