am just being nosy, but i'm curious that with the vast array of people we have who frequent this forum, and their vastly different careers and countries of inhabitance, i got to thinking about how much money people make, and what they do. i understand lots of people get pretty secretive about this, but seeing as we all have "assumed identities" here, it shouldn't matter. i also know we've had tons of "what do you do for a living" threads, but i always find them interesting and i'm curious (& nosy) about what you actually earn doing what you do.
i'll start: I work as a Mine Geologist for a very large mining company in a very large Open Cut Iron Ore Mine in Western Australia. i earn AUS$79,000 a year, which is approx US$60k and 34k pounds i consider this a considerable improvement from earning 8.50 pounds/hour working in london for a year and a half. but i do get taxed up to 48 cents in the dollar. ouch.

I get just over £16/hour teaching computing part-time to adult learners. I only do it a couple of nights a week. I guess the pay's not bad, considering I'm unqualified in computing and teaching. (my degree is in chemistry)
The rest of the time I get paid by the joy and happiness of raising my kids.
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

I can talk about my earnings, but I'm still offended because benji didn't put his salary in canadian dollars.

I am not pulling in near as much as some of you, only about $20,000 a year, still doing restaurant work unfortunately. People often ask me why I'm still at a restaurant, and I guess I am a bit defensive about it. I know some make their careers in it, but certainly not I. I am still there dreaming of the day when I can do something more to my liking, like graphic design or some sort of computer-related field. But, along the way, two kids happened, and I can't devote near as much time and effort to achieving my goals as I once could when I was say, 20 and unmarried. Makes me feel horribly old and washed-up. Between my wife and I we might pull in close to $40,000 together this year.

Burn(ed)! I currently am travelling, so I lose, probably on average $50 CDN/day. Looking for a job now to stem that flow...

I make $37k as an associate editor at a small trade association. I think pay is adequately matched to my job duties. |
