Just spotted a copy of the catholics first album on ebay, and it has a single bundled with it. This single has Bob Dylan's, "Changing of the Guard" on it. Has anyone heard this, as I love the original and would to hear what Frank and the Catholics done with it.

I've never heard the original, but I like what Frank and the Catholics done with it. They did much better covers, but this one's not exactly a slouch in my mind. I guess if I have a problem with it, that would be the length. Good song, but it's one of the longest the band ever recorded and there's not really much variation in pace or tone. Nobody seems to really talk it up 'round here. I much much prefer the other two songs on the All My Ghosts single (I'm assuming that's the one you're seeing); Humboldt County Massacre is probably one of my top five Frnak songs.

I agree. In my opinion, the 3 bsides of All My Ghosts far eclipse ANYTHING on the brown album. It's a necessary supplement. |

i only know the fb&tc john-peel-session of "changin of the guards" and it is fantastic! not much variation, but it is very tight & strong. and frank sings very good, altough (or maybe becuase) there is not much melody in the song. further on, this tiny guitar interlude sounds so nice, as do the backing vocals ("sixten years!.."). i just like it.

not to change the subject but did anyone watch the Dylan documentary on PBS earlier this week. It was so weird and I don't know if this is because i am a super freaky fan but there seemed so many paralels with bob and frank. examples include a pic of dylan typing with joan b. in the background and then frankblack francis cover. Also Dylan played Newport and then the Pixies just played it. Dylan recorded one of his albs with a cool bunch of artists that jammed and improved the music and frank did with Honeycomb... but it's a cool connection.
