I was curious. I know a lot of people have major cyber chats happening whether it be via email or posting. But do many people actually socilise in person with people they have met on this board? I mean do you hang out outside of the Frank Black world. Chat on the phone, visit someone elses city etc, catch up see movies and get wasted etc. I met one guy from australia on the board but outside of Frank Black we didn't seem to have much in common so that friendship died ...or maybe thats just me. The only friend ive ever met through the internet is a guy i traded Wilco bootlegs too who was in my same city. |

I made a mess on my bored friends. Last time they'll come to my place on Monday night..
I've met a load of people from a chat room I used to frequent back in the day, we were all good buddies and used to meet up occassionally and do stuff. Not that sort of "stuff" though. I've also met a few peeps from a geeky guitar forum I've been at for years, all very cool people.
I've met a few people from here briefly at Nimrod Son's shows where I'd put them on the guestlist or whatever.

I've met Brian on several occassions at shows in the city.
Saturday I'm meeting Kathryn for the first time at Across the Narrows.

I've had tentative arrangements to meet up with several forum folk and I always manage to find a way to miss out. Last week, however, I did hook up with the righteous and mighty fumanbru for lunch and a good conversation. Cool guy, I must say. It seems to be a symptom of Frank Black fans.

I've met (spiritually) my astral twin, Jediroller.
I met my Saskatchewan brother, Dean K., in June '05.
I'll meet the 2 Official Queens of the FB Forum next month -- Lady Kathryn, who wants to teach me the noble, ancestral art of moose calling, and Lady Jennifer, who's promised me to make me a subtle, cultured man in less than 4 days.

Be very afraid.
Seriously, I considered Broken Face (and a couple of other folks here) a friend and then we met and he's got a part of my heart always with him. He's a doll and meeting him just cemented our online friendship.
I also had a delightful dinner with darwin. The first words I said to my husband when I got home were "We would so be friends with him and his family if we lived closer." I am sure darwin's words to his wife were "I am so glad that that crazy woman lives thousands of miles away."
In my mind these days before Frog's visit, I keep thinking about how great it will be to hang out in person. It's a blessing.
I am not sure if this counts, but I have spoken with kitty on the phone and, let me tell you, that chick has the dirtiest laugh you will ever hear from a woman.

I've met Tony who isn't a lot like floop (He's actually quite a pleasant young man) and I've met Mikey who isn't that much like Monkey (he's a bit quicker in the thinking department in person) I've met Break my Body who is absolutely like Rita (sweet and kind) and I've met Simon who is what you'd expect from someone with the moniker Cheeseman really.
Thats my lot.

Lets see: Homers Pet Monkey (top dude, hopefully seeing him again soon at the Breeders) Bumblebeeboy2 (surprisingly, the weirder one out the mancs) GypsyDeath (back slowly away) Benji (top banana - excellent taste in music, poor taste in places to live) Gavredmaxx (slightly randomly, at 50 Foot Wave) Leah (every bit as bonkers as you'd think for someone who writes in lilac) Jo (coolio, well connected also) EnglishGeezer (I think! I'm nervous around large groups of TMOers) Starmekitten (evil absolutely lovely)
Dean I think avoided the possibility of meeting me, which was a wise choice in one so young. I also managed to evade Monsieur (quite unintentionally, I promise) last time he was in London, mobile phone problems, I believe.

I suppose I deserve that. I'm coming home for the winter at the end of the week now, you can try to find me somewhere and I'll buy you drinks 'till the cows come home and leave again. Come to the Nine Inch Nails concert and I'll buy you a $7 beer!

Well maybe you'll see Llamadance in Peru (see what I did there?)
I met Pierre aka debaser at various Catholics gigs, very cool guy but unfortunately it seems he's not around anymore (or maybe he's just lurking). And I met James "666" Barnard who's not very active here but who was a regular AbstractPlain poster, we went to a fabulous Guitar Wolf gig in Paris and he stayed at my place. And I might see johnny yen sometime soon when he comes over here.

Thanks Brian. Seriously, I'd be more than happy to meet you, but I have no plans to visit NY this time. In fact I'll spend most of my time exploring the deep, deep America :)

With the other French guys, we meet up on a regular basis, have a drink or two and eat some frogs and snails, and discuss our frenchyness.
We usually dress like sailors for these meetings. Except Denis, who keeps wearing his swimming shorts although it's getting freezing cold thses days.

By the way, Denis, don't you think we should meet, like, only twice or maybe once a year?
I am pretty sure that our meetings would be more fruitful.
