I know there's more than enough Pixies "Best Of" albums, but if you had to make one, what songs would you put on it?

1. Caribou
2. Ed is Dead
3. I've Been Tired
4. Bone Machine
5. Gigantic
6. Where is My Mind?
7. Tony's Theme
8. Vamos
9. Debaser
10. Wave of Mutilation
11. Here Comes Your Man
12. Monkey Gone to Heaven
13. Hey
14. Velouria
15. Is She Weird
16. Dig for Fire
17. Hang Wire
18. All Over the World
19. Alec Eiffel
20. The Sad Punk
21. U-Mass
22. Subbacultcha
23. Motorway to Roswell
24. Into the White

Are you lookin' for the motherlode?

Hey Mister Dog, I like your choices but my ultimate Pixies best of would be made up of the following (a few b-sides thrown in for good measure)

  1. The Holiday Song

  2. Space (I Beleive In)

  3. Wave of Mutilation BUT I would have to choose the UK Surf version

  4. The Happening (the opening is sooooo sexy and I love Frank's vocals)

  5. Ana

  6. Nimrod's Son

  7. Tame

  8. Cactus

  9. Subbacultcha (I love Kim's singing and bass in this - it gets me all giddy)

  10. Oh My Golly!

  11. I've Beeen Waiting For You

  12. Make Believe (I think this is fucking hilarious - Dave's ode to Debbie Gibson)

  13. Theme From Narc

  14. Ed is Dead

  15. Tony's Theme

  16. Into The White

  17. Alec Eiffel

  18. Hang Wire

  19. Mr Grieves

  20. Is She Wierd

  21. All Over The World

  22. Debaser

  23. Gouge Away

  24. Vamos - but which version? I think the live one from the Death To the Pixies CD

  25. Planet of Sound

  26. Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons

  27. Monkey Gone To Heaven

  28. Hey

This is really difficult - therere too many good songs to choose from. But looking at my list, it's amazing what a range of song styles there are. They truely are the best band in the world.

A few songs I would leave out though are:-

  • Here Comes Your Man (I know I'm in major minority, but this is one of my least fave Pixies songs)

  • U-Mass

  • The Sad Punk

  • As I'm writing this, I just remembered what a bloody great album Bossanaova is - I think my fave Pixies album - although it does depend what mood I'm in)

    5. Gigantic
    6. Brick is Red
    7. Hey
    8. Monkey Gone to Heaven
    9. Gouge Away
    10. Velouria
    11. All Over the World
    12. Hang Wire
    13. Alec Eiffel
    14. Motorway to Roswell
    15. U-Mass
    16. Into the White

But how come you've some new one so this list that weren't on the other one?

It's too damn difficult to choose - it really depends what mood I'm in as whether I want a mellowish album (bossanova) or ear-splitting beauty (surfa rosa). Ah heck, can't we just make a Complete recodings set instead?!

My BEST OF PIXIES would simply be a box set...of all five albums.

I was alone...in my BIG BED

The actual official Wave of Mutilation compilation is thoroughly comprehensive however, for some lifeless reason, it doesn't include I've Been Tired.

    Here we go :

    1) Caribou (The BBC version sounds real good, so... It would be a wise choice, it rocks more than the studio the version).
    2) Ed Is Dead.
    3) Bone Machine.
    4) River Euphrates (off the Gigantic EP).
    5) Gigantic.
    6) Vamos (a live one from the 1991 tour would be appreciated, with the Jeopardy theme for instance).
    7) Where Is My Mind.
    8) Monkey Gone To Heaven.
    9) Gouge Away.
    10) Here Comes Your Man.
    11) Debaser.
    12) Santo.
    13) Tame.
    14) Ana.
    15) Cecilia Ann.
    16) Velouria.
    17) The Happening.
    18) Is She Weird.
    19) Alec Eiffel.
    20) Motorway To Roswell.
    21) The Sad Punk.
    22) Planet Of Sound.
    23) Into The White.

The transition between the two last songs would sound cool... I guess.

And the second disc would be a live one from the 1991 tour. Just before the release of Trompe Le Monde 'cause they played almost a best of on stage.

dancing the manta ray is awesome. i called out for it two or three times, both at reading 2005 and the first ally pally gig. apprently they'd played it a couple of times during the reunion, and it's definitely my favourite less heard of song.
