A friend of mine managed to acquire this album and gave me a copy... Has anyone heard it yet?

I have listened to Prairie Wind maybe 3 times and it is starting to hook me in big time. Its one of those albums that you hear a couple of times and you get really excited about. Its also one of those albums that you own and never get bored of. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone, Neil Young fan or not.

This is a high class bureau de change, not some Punch & Judy show on the seafront at Margate!

His last two or three albums didn't stick. Stuart your praise is cause for optimism, a good Neil Young album will be welcome.

I can understand if people didn't like Are You Passionate (I actually like this album), but Greendale is amazing and probably one of my all time faves!

Nothing beats Harvest. Nothing by Neil or anybody else approximates that album for beauty and sadness and amazement.
Sometimes listening to it is too painful; other times, only Harvest can pull me thru the pain.

Harvest is a great album.... one of the best of all time. Neil Young has done some fucking brilliant albums, and his new one is up there in my opinion. Trans is an under-rated classic if you ask me... anyone heard that one?

In fact Neil Young and Frank are quite similar in that the vast majority of their work is amazing, but at times they have the tendency to write tunes that are dreadful.... Bowie is also similar in that way. Also, Bowie / Black / Young albums are generally nothing special upon first listen, but kick you smack bang in the teeth after about 4th time around... leaving you no choice but to keep the cd in the player for months upon end.

Trans was slated when it came out, but if you take the time to listen to it then it really is a cracking album.... very different to his normal stuff. Plus some of the songs are written about his sons disability... Transformer Man for example, which gives the album an edge. Sample & Hold is a cracker, in fact pretty much all the songs on Trans are belters!

Yes, I've heard it. "Little Thing Called Love" is NOT a good song, but it also features cool stuff like "Computer Age" and "Transformer Man". A lot of his albums from the 1980s are like that. For example, Life features "Long Walk Home", "Mideast Vacation", and the classic "Prisoners of Rock and Roll", but it also has "Around the World", which is less enjoyable than feces.

A few more thoughts on Neil Young...

"Hey Hey, My My" is the most impressive song EVER. NO one else (except maybe Bob Mould) could play a guitar as distorted as the one on that recording and have it sound, for lack of a better word, awesome. Yes, I know it uses 1-5-6-4. How Neil can write the best song ever without bothering to use a more original chord progression is beyond my comprehension. Neil is a paradoxical songwriter.

Everybody's Rockin' needs to be recognized.

My favorite NY album so far is Ragged Glory (1990). After years of vain searching and in less than 7 minutes (the duration of the first song), it made me understand what 'country rock' really means

I couldn't say what my favorite Neil Young album is.... I have most of them but haven't had the chance to listen to them all as there are so many. I am listening to Prairie Wind alot at the moment and also Reactor (this is a good album)... but yeah, Ragged Glory is a cracker as are most I have listened to. I don't seem to rate After the Gold Rush as much as most people do, even thought it is a good album.

Have got Everybody's Rockin' but not listened to it yet.
