Just curious if anyone got the new Dave Matthews Band record and what they think of it. I'm not even really an enthusiastic fan of theirs (I got Under the Table and Dreaming buried away somewhere) but I heard them play a song on Letterman that sounded really nice. Let me know what you think if you've got or heard it. |

I know not but I do know that "Crush" is a beautiful song, despite my hatred of DMB. Sorry to mess up your thread. Crawling back to where I came from now....

Yeah they have a lot of haters for some reason, they do have a tendency to sound kind of benign I suppose. I have a friend who really loved them till he went and saw them. He said they played about four songs expanding each one into about 25 minute versions...Zoinks! |

"For some reason"? The fact that they're BORING AS HELL might have a little something to do it.

As do the dreadlocked white boy fans with their sugar magnolias with braided armpit hair and flowy skirts and, like, hippie, like, stuff.

I sat next to some guy on the train one time who was following them around the country and your description is frighteningly accurate Kathryn, but you forgot STINKY. |

I was gonna post something about the reek of patchouli but I thought, why state the obvious?

I never thought I'd see the day when this band have their own thread on here.

Damn, people really do hate this band don't they! Wrong place for my query I guess. I'm sensing some hatred nearing the magnitude of a band like Creed:) |

At least Creed fans aren't smelly hippies. OK, that's mean, I'll stop.

I think I hate Creed even more than Dave Matthews, but I'm not sure. They're both dreadfully boring, but at least Dave doesn't have so much of the Fake Angst.

What does vegetarianism have to do with dressing badly, smelling worse and listening to shitty music?

Sorry, if you're a vegetarian, you have to be a hippie. I don't make the rules.
Incidentally, most of the Dave Matthews fans I've encountered haven't been hippies at all, but rather frat-boy Abercrombie & Fitch-wearin' types.

I am a vegetarian and the fartherest from a hippie possible. So much for "the rules."

Years ago two friends with whom I had long traded music recommendations made a bit of a living room show out of presenting me with a birthday gift, a Matthews cd, and I failed them by my expression, telegraphing my horror. They fell back aghast, mumbling offers to get something else, while I fumbled for apologies about trying to be open-minded. Haven't seen those folks for quite awhile, now that I think about it. |

In honor of this thread I dug out my Under the Table and Dreaming disc. Nothing like some feel goody 90's music! I don't think I'll shower for a week. |

Funny you should say that, Heydude. Because of this thread, and despite of my comments in it, I have listened to the acoustic version of "Crush" twice today. Yet, I am not wearing patchouli.

i respect their musicianship and enjoy about a half dozen of their songs. not that i would admit that to anyone...but i just did..fuck
i think their biggest fault is their boringness. if i had a band with a great rhythm section, a sax player and a violinist, i wouldn't be playing the shit they play.
