and i was very impressed. haven't really listened to their stuff the last 5-8 years but used to be a big fan of theirs back in the "grunge" days. their music doesn't do much for me these days but real glad i went to the show. (backstreet boys played the night before and with only a limited entertainment budget i had to make a difficult choice.)
eddie's voice was amazing and they put on a kick ass show. i think they played for almost 2 1/2-3 hours- around 30 songs. tonnes of enegy. they finished with a cover of neil young's rockin in the free world. the crowd was absolutely defenning. eddie also put on a wrestling mask and sang a song with the opening band the supersuckers which was cool. tickets were $70 though. very pricey. definately not fb/pixie concert value. seeing arcade fire with wolf parade for $20 at the end of the month in a smaller type venue. now that's a show that i'm really looking forward too. it would be tough living in a place like new york or la where you can pretty much see any band live at one time or the other.

$70? Sounds expensive. Was it a stadium gig? |

Pearl Jam is one sucky group and Eddie Vedder is a punchline minus the joke. I would have actually preferred seeing Backstreet Boys over PJ. Hated 'em back in '91 and will forever hate them. HATE HATE HATE them!

Pearl Jam brought "Alternative" music to the (m)asses and ruined it for the rest of us. I do like that "woman behind the counter in a small town that has stayed in the small town and done nothing with her life while this other guy was out experiencing life" song quite a bit. I SEEEEEEM TO RECOGNIZE YOUR PLAAAACE! I THINK I BOUGHT SOMETHING IN HEEEERE ONCE OR TWICE A LONG TIME AGOOOOO!

A friend of mine who has seen more bands than I could even begin to imagine still rates Pearl Jam as an amazing show. She wasn't a fan in the slightest but after seeing them for the first time she had to see them the two following nights, they were that good.

They're a good band. I saw a live concert on t.v. about a year ago and they sounded pretty shitty however. Off night maybe. They scored Matt Cameron as a drummer though the lucky bastards! |

I'm one of those fools who think that PJ released at least two good albums, 'No Code' and 'Yield'. Not to mention 'Mirrorball', which they recorded with Mr. Neil Young.

I love vinyl. My local record fairs aren't that condusive to my tastes, but one time I was there and I wanted to come home with at lest something, so I bought "riot act". Not bad. The packaging's better than the music, but there are some good songs. Vitalogy is a great album. Did they play any songs from Vitalogy, fumanbru? |

ya that's very expensive. they played at our new hockey arena. seats 15,000 and the show sold out the first day. the sound was great.

Not For You is a great song. Fuckin' Up is a Neil Young cover as well, right? |

ya fuckin up is a neil young cover as well. the highlights for me were the last 2 neil young covers they did. he also had some nice words for neil young. there were rumours that neil might make an appearance since he spent a large part of his childhood growing up in winnipeg but that didn't happen.

They did Fuckin' Up?! I always thought that sounded Pixie-ish, I think it's the 'why do I' backing vocals or something. I like Mirrorball, from what I can remember of hearing it. They should collaborate with Neil again! |

I'd see Pearl Jam any day - Maiden, as much as it surprises people just does not work for me at all. One of those bands I'll just never get.

hehee. what a cowinkidink, i saw them technically last nite too. Honestly, I thought they put on a really good show.
I saw them in 92 opening after lush for lolla. I don't really think comparing PJ to the Pixies is valid b/c Pixies are the best band in the universe by far and have a very different musical style.
the number one thing i notced a diff about was the crowd. what i will say was i was wishing it was more of a pixies crowd. the security was the most painfully slow security that i have been through. i had brought a cd for my husband in case he got close enough for Eddie to sign it. the lady wasn't going to let me take in in for fears I would thow it??
tickets 54 were each US
the preformance was great. edddie vedder sounded like he did back in the day. the band sounded great. they played the hits. even though i know most of the songs i don't know them well enough to sing along but there was a lot of that going on.
they did a cover of a police song which was cool and freedom rock.
they brought this cute kid cuatro up on the stage and he really stole the closing cover to freedom rock.
it was a really fun concert and it was good to see them again after so many years. i was impressed that eddie's stage prefomance still could hang with the one i saw back in the day.
i say go see them if you haven't seen pj. you got to see them at least once. The band really gave it their all and it's always nice to see band that are big like the Pixies and PJ that still give it their all to have a good show.
but it did really make me miss an hanker for the pixies... breeders ... frank black... you know!

I have never been able to get into them. They seem pretty boring to me.
I have liked some of their songs but not many.

yeah, my husband is a ten club member so we were planning this trip for awhile. we saw them in beautiful thunder bay! :)
so i am guessing we will also catch them in minny if they make it for the US part of the tour.
must say, i think the CA leg will be better due to the small venes though!!

Yeah I hear it was a good show Fu. A friend of mine was there too. Myself, I've never been a PJ fan at all really. Vedder's earnestness grates on my nerves (I think he gives off way more of a "tortured genius" vibe than Wilco's boy could ever dream of :) ). I prefer my music to have a healthy dose of irreverance...good that it sold out though. Hopefully we'll start getting a bigger % of the tours coming through the peg thanks to the new barn.

thxs surfer. yes, i downloaded the wpg show yesterday. i'm making copies for a few of my friends and then i think i will have to slip in the live pixies winnipeg show so they can compare the music to a truly great band!
