Don't get me wrong, they are/were incredible. However, I really miss the Catholics. They pushed the whole thing into new territory. Out of bounds had never seemed so comfortable. I went new places I had never gone with another band and now I feel like their just a car that won't start. Style abandoned for convenience.

Had the same problem.
I cleaned cables, now it starts fine.
I miss the grinding also but the new gas make the motor run rough.

MDG, i know exactly what you mean.
But swap Pixies with Catholics, and Catholics with Frank Black

I don't care. Solo or Catholics are fine with me. But I would like to hear some more of his post -hair music. thats the good stuff.

The pixies are great but I am sick of going to stadium shows full of 16 year olds who aren't even paying attention and are just there because its the hip band of the year. No offense I am sure there are real 16 year old fans too. But I think everyone that has been to a recent pixies show understands what i mean.

If the Pixies were to permanently seperate right now and not record or tour again, I'd be fine with it. And if they keep going, I'd be fine with it. I don't care. I saw my one Pixies concert and that's it. My curiousity is satisfied. For me, the nicest thing about the past year and a half has been the big pile of new and interesting Frank Black interviews that have emerged from all the hubub.

I don't really miss the Catholics, though I did like them a lot. If you want more Catholics, it seems to me you could just listen to The Band or The Rolling Stones to get the same vibe.

Frank's too prolific and probably too smart, both as a musician and a businessman wary of his millions-earning band wearing out their welcome, to stop coming up with new music. So I don't think you have that worry about. Though I'm not a big fan of HONEYCOMB (now that the "Yay! New Frank album!" shine has worn off), I still trust him to turn out good stuff in the future.

I don't see anything to complain about.

It's my hope that Frank does what's best for him, his family and career. I think he's musician enough to manage more than one project at once (i.e. solo, FB & The C's and Pixies).

Pigeon-hole much do ya?

If I listened to music purely for the vibe, I'd be one of those assholes who only listen to reggae in the summer. I think that I, like others here who listen to FB&Cs listen to it for more reasons than that.

If, however, you do in fact have that one-dimensional appreciation of things, its no surpirse that you're pretty much satisfied with a lot of things...and dare I say, boring.

As one of those "Frank could be reading the phonebook" fans, I feel the dilemma. I've got a backlog of FB, FB&C, and Pixies downloads and 2005 PixiesDiscs shows to work through so whenever I have a marathon rock-out session I include lots of Frank, in al his guises. Last night for the first time I heard the third 2005 Pixies Portland show and then had to revisit disc two of the 2003 FB&C Regina CBC broadcast. Those Catholics versions of Gouge Away, Monkey, and the rest do hold their own against the wonderful Pixies shows of the last two years. No need to praise the Regina performances of Freedom Rock, I Want Rock and Roll, and Los Angeles. No surprise there. Frank has and delivers the goods. Made me want to hear the new Pixies doing Freedom Rock. Maybe having everything does make you dream.

By the way, that third Portland show is a wonder. Haven’t listened to the fourth yet but, assuming PixiesDiscs still has them available, I do recommend that May 27 set of those two shows. Between the two discs, it appears they offer about al the 2005 tracks. It’s a good year to be a “patron”. Anyway, as a Catholics-withhdrawal-sufferer, I’ve gotta believe we haven’t heard the last of Frank’s work with the various crewmembers, whether they be Gilbert, Workman, Feldman, or even Vincent. We’ve got it all, and it doesn’t even hurt to share it with the world.

Yipes! Somebody musta got into a car accident this morning! I LIKE the Catholics. Meep meep! And I don't know what's so offensive about the word "vibe".

I like the Catholics because I like classic rock and pop and I think that's what they sound like. They sound like a fine timeless classic rock band... one adept at country, folky stuff, pop, fast rock (like the Stones, like The Band, to name just a few). About 90% (or probably even more) of my music listening is 60s and 70s rock/pop/country and I enjoy how comfortably the Catholics fit in among those things. To me, that's a compliment (to the Catholics)! Beause it's the music I like the most.

However, I think it's great that others may listen to them and hear something they never heard before. I don't feel that way, but good for them.

Me, I look at the Catholics and what exists of their work (6 albums and all of those b-sides is a LOT of music) and think that they had a good run. They lasted as long as they could and probably as long as they felt they should (am I misreading or have Frank's interviews lately been very suggestive of the idea that Frank began publically stoking the Pixies reunion fire after Frank and the Catholics pretty much knew that they were finished. It doesn't sound like the Catholics ended because the Pixies got back together. It almost sounds like the Pixies got back together because the Catholics were ending.)

That wasn't a cob on, 50.
If I had, I'd sound a little like this:

"there are too many fucking Pixie fans round here who haven't a clue about Frank Black. pixiesmusic is thataway."

But it wasn't. So I didn't. Sound like that, that is.
