to rrrich, thank you for further information. wow, they'd already set the dates and places (and picked up Hiroshima!). i didn't know even a thing.
official page link. http://www.creativeman.co.jp/040912pages/pixies.html
this is amazing. can't wait to get a ticket. it would be great if i could get into more than one show.
to ccuadros, i think i know how you feel... i hope that the band considers how desperate fans wanted to see them. oooh, how desperate! in my case, i've been waiting for this opportunity more than a decade.
good luck to you all. i hope your dream may come true.

yeh theres been trouble with the link for some reason- it just goes to the venue's website. go to creativeman.co.jp (the tour promotor) for info on how to get tickets. if youre in japan just go to lawson's or call PIA.

i've already got two night tickets and both of them are relatively easy to get. so i started some kind of worrying that if the venue would be filled up or not.
but i think this must be a good news that they decided to add the date. thanks rrrich.
here is the information from creativeman.co.jp (some explanations are added by haluo)

nah, a lot of japanese shows have you buy a drink ticket on entry for 500 yen so it's probably the same. i never went to a gig with a drink limit, so i imagine you just have to buy some in advance.

more details of an added date.
it seems they plan for some special features on december 11th gig.
they call it "Pixies Tribute -Alive- ", and aside from the Pixies, they list two japanese bands, BEAT CRUSADERS and MO'SOME TONEBENDER, who definitely respect the band.
According to the BEAT CRUSADERS' official web site, both of them took part in the album called "tribute to the PIXIES" in 2000. i don't know them even a name, but i think it sounds fun.
and floop, sorry for my poor english made you confusing.
you need at least ツ・7,500 to watch a show. ticket price ツ・7000 + drink charge ツ・500. they don't care whether you are thirsty or not, you just have to buy a drink when you get to the venue. and that has no relation to a limit.
i have no idea why they are not willing to take all that money (ticket+drink) simultaneously, but that is what they have declared on their web site.
anyway, we have a week left. i'm so excited.
frank, kim, joey, david, i'm proud to welcome you to japan and i wish you guys enjoy our country as well as foods.
in Osaka, why don't you try a globefish. have you ever eaten a FUGU (globefish in Japanese)? so delicious, so expensive. although they have a poison (very bad one), it's still worth a try.

thanks billgoodman! i cannot wait to sing along them and have fun.
Carl, i suppose they are snippets from famous US TV show "The Simpsons". i didn't know that the word "FUGU" makes sense to you, as well as TOFU, SUSHI, and KAROSHI (work hard until you die).
by the way, i must say this in behalf of all the FUGU in japan, they are much more cute! what is that purple skin and glare-looking eye? they are so cute that we tend to eat them very easily (contrary to Daisy Girl's view) -- and, as a result, we could die easily.
cheers.

Konichiwa, Haluo! When I Googled for those Simpson's pics, I saw the word Fugu! They're from the episode One Fish, Two Fish, Blow Fish, Blue Fish. Have you ever seen the episode where they go to Japan? They have epileptic seisures watching a cartoon called Battling Seisure Robots!!
My brother used to eat tofu when he was a vegan (and probably still does), I'm not sure if I've tasted it before. And I've never had Sushi! Or sake. I don't recall the word karoshi, but I do know karaoke!

Return of 'stupid little Boston band' the Pixies
Frank Spignese / Special to The Daily Yomiuri
When the reunited Pixies took the stage at another rain-drenched Fuji Rock in summer 2004, one couldn't help but feel that the audience wasn't grasping the full significance of what was about to happen. The band was welcomed with the same respectful applause that had greeted P.J. Harvey and Lou Reed, but a far more monumental reception was deservedly in order.
The Pixies had gotten back together. Only Joe Strummer crawling out of his grave and reforming the Clash could have overshadowed this most unlikely of rock 'n' roll reconciliations. The animosity between lead man Frank Black and bassist Kim Deal is legendary. Black was on such bad terms with the rest of the Pixies at the end of their doomed 1992 tour that he broke up the band via fax.
At the peak of their fame, opening for U2 at stadiums across the United States and riding the about-to-break '90s grunge rock wave, they called it quits. They would never get a chance to reap the benefits of the music that they themselves had planted.
In Gouge, a recent Pixies documentary, David Bowie says that everyone who heard them back in those days day formed their own band. Bono goes on to claim that Black is one of the most gifted American songwriters of all time.
But where they really left their mark was on the alterative revolution that dominated '90s music. Everyone from Helmet to Blur aped a bit of the band's nerd-rock aura. Radiohead frontman Tom Yorke only agreed to play last year's Coachella Festival after learning that the Pixies were also on the bill. Most famously, Kurt Cobain confessed that "Smells Like Teen Spirit," with its quiet/loud, whisper/scream dynamic, was a complete Pixies rip-off.
This "stupid little band in Boston" (as Deal once referred to them) lay claim to something that few groups can: they invented their own genre. They made Pixies music. They mixed surf rock, Beatlesque harmonies and ear-bleeding thrash all inside head-spinning songs that were often over before you knew they had begun. This, coupled with Black wailing away about incest, UFOs, death, the Old Testament, masturbation and water pollution, made for one heady brew.
Those who missed out the first time around can see what all the fuss is about when they hit Japan next week. They're promoting a new live DVD, Pixies Sell Out, which finds them in fine form.
Rumors abound that they will soon be reentering the studio to record again. So far the only new material to come from the reunited Pixies has been a track on a Warren Zevon tribute album and a Deal song, recorded (but rejected) for the Shrek 2 soundtrack.
In an interview with Salon.com, Black spoke about not being able to milk the reunion meal ticket forever.
"What does a band do?" he asked. "They go out on tour and then if they feel they have to make it or continue to make their mark, they go and write music and record it. We're not really in that mode, because right now we're just playing the old songs and getting paid lots of money for it."
Their set at Fuji Rock was a ferocious affair, kicking off with a crushing version of "Bone Machine" and steamrolling forward nonstop. The majority of tunes came from their early classics, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, but two fan faves from their later discs, "U-Mass" and "Velouria," were also rocked out.
Black looked a bit stockier and the detoxed Deal was without her trademark lit cigarette; otherwise they didn't appear much different than they did back in 1992.
They didn't move then and they don't move now. The Pixies don't have to, they just play.
One tangible difference was their easy air on stage. Deal was smiling from ear to ear the entire show, hamming it up with her old nemesis Black.
Guitarist Joy Santiago flubbed the beginning to "Debaser" and Black made a joke about it. A similar mistake made back in the early '90s would have been greeted with a hurled instrument.
The kinder, gentler Black verified the possibility of a new album in a recent interview with VH1.
"I haven't removed enough Kim Deal compositions yet" he half-joked. "We'll have a fight about that or something. And, of course, in the end I will dominate."
Pixies will play Dec. 3, 6 p.m. at Drum Logos in Fukuoka, (092) 714-0159; Dec. 4, 6 p.m. at Club Quattro in Hiroshima, (082) 249-3571; Dec. 5-6, 7 p.m. at Zepp in Tokyo, (03) 5466-0777; Dec. 8, 7 p.m. at Zepp in Osaka, (06) 6233-8888; Dec. 9, 7 p.m. at Zepp in Nagoya, (052) 320-9100.

Hi everyone
Since I have now the chance to live in Japan, I will go to the show tonight (Dec 5th) in Tokyo... Who else will come ? 日本人へお知らせ:私は背が高いフランス人です。
I will try to post comments afterwards.
NB : This is the 4th country in which I see the Pixies.

Tokyo, Dec 5th
Tentative Setlist
Gouge away Ed is dead Crackity Jones Debaser Tame I bleed Is she weird Monkey gone to heaven Here comes your man Where is my mind Planet of sound UMASS Vamos No 13 Broken face Bone machine Into the white Gigantic Lady in the radiator song Winterlong Caribou La la love you Wave of mutilation (UK surf) Hey Mr Grieves River Euphrates ???
The Japanese crowd was far more gentle than European crowds : gentle moshing, no crowd surfing... It's not that the crowd was too quiet : the audience reacted, danced, jumped but without disturbing each other.
Frank and Co did a few jokes on stage, for example a kind of theater play before the "encore" : they pretended they could not play anymore because one of David's fingers was a little painful... then David had the idea to kiss his finger then it was OK ! So overplayed, so funny !!

Sounds like a unique show. Is'nt it the highest honour in Japan for an audience to remain completely silent at the end of show?! Obviously, that did'nt happen, although I suppose it was a rock gig!

Had they ever played a "The Sad Punk" since they reunited?
i don't know whether they had or not, but i do know when it comes to the city of hiroshima, i don't think there is more suitable city exist for playing that song.
according to mr. jake walker's blog (http://www.pixiesdiscs.com/archives/2005/12/peace.php), the band and their staff visited the peace memorial museum before the show. and i suppose this is related to why they chose the song on that night.
it was a very touching moment. i found myself being in sudden tears (no, this is not true. i had already cried at River Euphrates, a 2nd song!) and i cannot describe how i felt or what a great show that was .... in english.
so i want to say this very simple way, thank you, just thank you, pixies.

Yeah, they've played it a number of times, as far as I know-they played it when I saw them here in Dublin. Glad you enjoyed seeing them, Haluo, and it's nice to hear they visited that museum. It's certainly a thrill to see them live!! :)
