Does anyone here like this band? I love them, and I know Domestiques is a fan. The same friend who got me into The New Pornographers got me into these, and I think there is a similarity there. Certainly both are hugely under-appreciated bands. Both should have been huge (neither had the image to make it, which usually doesn't help). Sadly this will never be with The Delgados as they split up earlier this year.
They write really lovely pop songs, with interesting unexpected melodies and sung with both make and female vocals (Emma sings the songs that she writes, and sings the songs that he writes). Both songwriters now have solo projects on the way so hopefully that will mean more pop brilliance from both (Emma has signed to 4AD). They also have their own record label, Chemikal Underground Records, that releases albums by Malcolm Middleton, Mother And The Addicts and Arab Strap amongst others.
Anyway, you can download some tracks on their website
http://www.delgados.co.uk/
And if anyone would like me to send some of their tracks then let me know. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I've been acquainted with The Delgados for a little while. They were one of those bands I'd always been aware of and never bothered with, until they released their last album Universal Audio and I thought, 'why not'. I saw them live last Winter too, they were playing with Cass McCombs and Six By Seven. They were okay.
I can't say I'm a big fan of them. Going on what I've heard of them, I find they're a little 'middle-of-the-road'.

Well they don't play washboard solos, no. It's just excellent songwriting. You don't have to pull up trees all the time. Hell, you like The Catholics don't you?

I love the Catholics. What?
Admittedly, I'm going on what I've heard of the Delgados; that being Universal Audio and a few other tracks I've heard here and there, and I'm not thei biggest fan.
Can you recommend any non-Universal Audio tracks I might like Mike? I'm very keen on 'Everybody Come Down'. Super pop-ditty!

I am not sure really. They are very melody heavy songs on all of the albums (except maybe Pelaton which is the most difficult album to get into), so if you don't like Universal Audio then you probably won't like nay of the others.
The Great Eastern is considered their finest work though if you wanna check that album out.
By mentioning the Catholics , I meant that some music that might be considered 'middle of the road' by some, is actually just undeniably good song writing.

I am fairly partial to Universal Audio, but I got the feeling it may have been their most commercial sounding album....? I'll have a listen to The Great Eastern.
The Catholics! Middle-of-the-road they may be classed, but I have a duty, my good man! (Only kidding- the Catholics = unbeniably good song writing indeed!)

Yeah Universal Audio is probably their most poppy of all their albums. It was like their final attempt at selling some records.

I really liked universal audio, way better than the previous record, the great eastern didnt really do it for me, maybe peloton and domestiques were so damn good that nothing came close. The Delgados were one of the best bands I ever saw and on record outstripped almost all of their contemporaries. HPM suggests that peloton is the most difficult to get into, I dont see that personally but thats just me. Now I have to put Peloton on my ipod and listen to it on the way to work, I suggest you do the same.

My friend agrees with me on Pelaton, that it's the most difficult, but maybe it's just us. Certainly not as poppy as Universal Audio.

That's pretty cool for an American High School band. The band are even less well known over there.
