Another light-hearted (boom boom) thread :)

This is inspired by the BBC's current campaign to widen the awareness about organ donation.

So, would you do it? Have you signed up to do it in the event of your death? Do your family know how you feel about it? How about your family agreeing to it if you're against it?
Should organ donation be made compulsory in return for free health care?

I am happy to do it, but have an irrational queasiness about donating my corneas, so haven't agreed to that.

I can't think of why not.
If you're dead, you're dead, it doesn't matter anymore.
And wouldn't it be cool to think someone lived because of your heart, kidney etc. and that they're living with that organ everyday.

Don't believe the hype.

I signed up and got this little card that I carry in my wallet. Of course my wife knows about it, but I haven't discussed it with anybody else. I haven't really pondered this, it seemed a natural thing to do. I wouldn't go as far as claiming it should be compulsory though, that seems a bit extreme to me.

Each day a dear friend of mine thanks the dead stranger who made her corneal transplant possible.

I'm an organ donor. Everybody ought to be.

btw, a morbid little fact from a surgeon friend: holidays and weekend nights are crucial times for those awaiting transplants because that's when most car wrecks happen.

What if you're in an accident and the doctors find out you're a donor and don't fancy your chances as much as a semihealthy person waiting for your kidney, do you think they'd give up on you?

I actually have an organ available for donation. Collection preferable. The rhythm section is a bit hit-and-miss, but the keys and the footpedals work just fine.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Im (or will be, even) an organ donor. I too have a little card that i carry in my wallet.

My boyfriend, best friend and mum know that these are my wishes.

Why should someone else who has a fighting chance not have the opportunity, to, well fight for that chance. If im gone, then im gone. its not like im gonna feel it. And my body, to me isnt, isnt something i think of as ....myself...my soul is whats me, and they cant exactly give that to someone else.

I know that if something happened to me, and i needed a new kidney or heart, then i would bloody hope that there was someone out there prepared to give me just that. You cant expect to be helped and not give something back. In my opinion, anyhow.
