Did anyone get to see this at all? I think it was either on C4 or ITV recently and was a program about a former CIA operative researching the history and motives behind suicide bombings mainly in the middle east. You can download it (parts 1 & 2) on www.uknova.com if you are interested... I'd be interested in hearing anyone who saw it's views.

I haven't seen it but I've often wondered about such minds. If one thinks in Kantian terms of a cranium that contains everything it understands to be a universe, or THE universe, imagine the metaphysical underpinnings of such beliefs. Polarities of absolute good and evil, god and satan. From within my own cranium, to raise children into these universes seems a great cultural crime of sanctioned child abuse. A will to vengeance I can somewhat understand. There are a couple individuals I love enough that if they were murdered or otherwise killed through gross negligence, I could be motivated to extreme vengeance. But a faith that can motivate to what I see as relatively indiscriminate killing, that strikes me as grotesque. |

It was a weird couple of programs, pretty fucking disturbing in actual fact as you saw Hamas videotapes of suicide bombers in action. The program started off good, but by the end of the second part it had you thinking that all the people in Middle East are a right bunch of crazy nutters.. All the people they interviewed stated that martyrdom was justified and the path to paradise, they didn't really show you interviews of people who condemn such brutal attacks.
Maybe I am just being drunken and overcynical but by the end of the second episode (I think that there were only two) I was thinking that I was watching western propoganda, designed to provoke feelings of uneasiness and insecurity.
Erebus, you should download them, it wouldn't take long and I'd be interested in your opinions.

Well if we want to talk indiscriminate killing, clusterbombs are as close as you'll get to an official declaration that they don't really care who dies.
