Ok look, I love the guy's music. He's incredibly talented. But in the visual department, he could really use a little refresher. I think he looks cooler when he wears a suit. What is this sort of island cabana look he's going for recently?

A big man would really rather run around in a tank top in the winter time than wear a suit.

Eeww! If it's between the tanktop and the cabana get up there's just no choice. Yay for Hawaii! |

He was rocking the opened-toe sandal look at last week's shows. Disturbing, really.

Ha! He's gotta know exactly what he's doing. He's too smart to be oblivious. |

Maybe I'm reading too much into his sartorial thing, but the closer the shows I saw got to Honeycomb's release, the less black-and-shades-indoors he got and the more floaty tunic slash laidback Americana he looked.

I saw The Pixies a few months back in Boston. He was dressed very flowie. If I remember correctly he had all white linnen pants and shirt with....yes, I do believe open toed sandals. Now, I used to see them back when they still lived in Boston. (Yeah, I'm that old.)I never would have imagined him to develop this sort of style. I suppose good for him. He's relaxed and he should dress however the fuck he wants. But, why? Why would he want to dress like a Hawiian cabin boy? |

You were at Agganis in June? Me, too. And in the 80s and 90s at various spots around Beantown. No wonder we're both saying he went from punk to flowy.

I last saw Frank with the Catholics in Aug 2001 in London, and he was wearing a dodgy sleevess lumberjack shirt, which was well weird and made him look like something out of The Deliverance.. anyone else at that gig?
This is a high class bureau de change, not some Punch & Judy show on the seafront at Margate! |

When I caught my first Catholics show, the Pistolero tour, he casually strolled into the club while the opener played, decked out in a full off-white suit. Really classy. He lingered a bit in front of the stage, as though conducting a pre-assault reconnaissance, and then passed right past our table toward backstage. I lunged out to within a few feet yelling my greeting. Surprised he didn't defend himself. For the show he emerged in the more nearly standard white shirt and jeans, if memory serves (which would be novelty). |

He's a lumberjack, and he's okay!

I think he has a good sense of personal style. If you think about it his style might have have influenced the grunge movement.
As far as the more relaxed open toe sandal look goes. I think it's cool. It's also cool temperature wise, and some of the places where he's playing it's super hot. Personally, I am biased because in the summer i like the lighter clothing, open toe sandal look, too.

Not when those DITS-era cut-off shorts were concerned.
The best Frank looked, imho -- black on black on dark shades indoors, baby!

this has nothing to do with music but since we already agreed that Show Me Your Tears is his best work we might as well talk about this
so I think that he looks better without a beard
that's all I want to say

I think Frank looks good all the time. I must say that I am partial to the green sweater vest and specs that he was sporting last fall. Very dignified.

*sigh* Ok, I can admit defeat. Now, back to the man in question. I always thought Frank looked best when he dressed like this:
I mean look, I still have the collectible Frank Black Doll from back then:
Oh God! I hope he doesn't pop by the forum on occasion. |

Eh! Hey I'm a big fan. I have been for many years. I figure I've earned the right to tease him. He can tease me back if he wants to. I can take it. I'm sure his sense of humor is pretty well developed. If it's not, I'd be disappointed. But seriously, doe he ever post here? |

As starmekitten just posted, Frank posted today.
A big joy here at fb.net is that Frank pops in once in a while and has milk and cookies with us. We're all one big happy forum family, and there is no teasing.
Now straighten up your shirt and brush the crumbs off your lap. He could be here any minute. I get the seat next to him.

I owe The Man big-time for turning me on to H Bar C Shirts. I scored 3 of 'em on ebay and they're fucking great. They look too fuckin cool out honky-tonkin. I think I'll wear the guitar one for the Honeycomb showcase. I always liked his flannel shirts as well, with the sleeves cut-off, of course.
[also, Rich "The Duke of Fenders" Gilbert, he's got a great collection of H Bar C's] OldManIna"Honeycomb"CoffeeCan.
