Does anybody hear any similarities between the two? Zevon's a great songwriter/storyteller and many of his songs remind me of Frank's (or vice versa).

Could you advise me on some of Zevon's songs that I should check out? |

I'm partial to "Lawyers, Guns and Money" and "Werewolves of London."

A good place to start is "A Quiet Normal Life (Best of)."
Some of his best songs are on there, like Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner and Desperados Under the Eaves.

Warren Zevon, like Frank Black, was an amazing songwriter. Likewise, he was and is very underrated. A strongly urge everybody in this forum to listen to:
My Shit's Fucked Up
He supposedly recorded this before he knew he had lung cancer. Also, on the Breakfast with Hunter Documentary, there is a scene with Zevon and Thompson writing a song together. I can never remember the name of this song, but after hearing Zevon go over these lyrics, I've got to check it out. This DVD, by the way, is an absolute must for and harcore Gonzo fan. It can be easily and prudently purchased at www.breakfastwithhunter.com. Watch out for that fire extinguisher!

I know Frank has mentioned being a big Zevon fan, and the Pixies covered one of his songs for a tribute album.
