They say a version of a new title was recently leaked (by Mute, according to some)... Did any of you hear it?

Maybe it ain't your cup of tea, but it's one of the best electro band of the "eighties" in my opinion, if not the best...

Do you agree with this statement?

I was a DM freak during my high school years in the eighties. My friends and I would go see them all the time. In fact, I'm somewhere in the screaming crowd on the 101 album. Over the years, my interest has waned, but every now and then I'll pop in a CD and realize just how incredible their sound was. Even their last album, EXCITER, had some cool stuff on it.

Yes, though the production failed on exciter, you can hear that there are good songs behind... They should have been recorded accoustic...
I was turned to them with Ultra... and then stepped Backward... the big thing for me was Music for the Masses...

Hope they won't choose a hype-geek producer like mark Bell... They deserve a BIG sound.

Already have my tickets for next February!!!

I ('ll) take Pictures...

I was completely unfazed by ULTRA...wasn't into it at all. For me their highlight is VIOLATOR, then a close tie between MUSIC FOR THE MASSES and BLACK CELEBRATION. A BROKEN FRAME is great too. Anyway...ah, high school. I couldn't imagine going to see them now, though. It was pretty special back in the day, however.

I was listening to a DM greatest hits compilation on my way to work yesterday. They're very much a reminder of high school days for me as well. I enjoy listening to them once in a while. Yeah, they're good.

Yep, I agree, Depeche Mode, one of the best bands of the '80's.

Saw 'em at Jones Beach '85 or '86, they played a lot from "catching up with", which contains one of my favorites, "I just can't get enough"

"A Broken Frame" is probably the most delicious Kraftwerk ripp-off. And definitely one of their best after all. Black Celebration for some reasons makes me think of Trompe le monde... There is a strange tie between these albums but I can't figure out what.... Maybe i'm mad or something...

Hey, out of topic for a minute... I'm French, but half Slovenian actually from my father. I used to go there quite often as a kid. I I'll be there next month for my Grand-Father's birthday party... I am currently preparing 2 or 3 songs in Sloven to perform along with other songs from my repertoire. I do not speak the language, only know a few words... But I find it very pleasant to sing. My sister does speak and writes me the lyrics.
My family comes from Maribor and you, where are you from?

Back to topic... You must have heard the average and pointless version of personnal jesus by marylin Manson?

I personnaly can play a few songs... like Blue dress, the botom line... very Velvetesque when stripped from electronic arrangement, these songs!

great to hear that

I'm from Ljubljana, a town probably better known as the venue of a couple of Pixies' gigs

thanks everyone for the cover info, now I'll go scout for that Pumpkins' version of Never Let Me Down Again, see if it can stand up to Gore's arrangement

Yeah, and I like Tori, but I have to say her version isn't very good. Much better than her take on "Happiness Is A Warm Gun," though.

I have some friends in the business who let me hear a preview of the new DM single, and I am really looking forward to the record. This song, at least, takes the good parts of the violator & music for the masses era, and updates the feel. Good production, strong writing...I hope the rest of the record is as good.

I suggest you play Laibach on your grandfather's birthday party.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Never Let me Down Again - Compilation: For The Masses 1998
Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus - American IV: The Man Comes Around 2002
Marilyn Manson - Personal Jesus - Compilation: Rock Open 2004
Deftones - To Have And To Hold - Compilation: For The Masses 1998
Poupeé Fabrikk - Photographic - Compilation: I Sometimes Wish I Was Famous 1991

Who was that guy who covered Policy Of Truth, just a guitar/bass/drums version? I remember he had a music video for it, so he must have released it as a single.
