Actor James Doohan, famous for his character of engineer chief Montgomery Scott ("Scotty") of the original Star Trek has died. He was 85. He suffered from Alzheimer's for the past few years, and succumbed after a bout with pnuemonia in his Washington home.
I'll miss you, Scotty.

Captain whatta we do!
It scares me to realize how many Scotty quotes I know off the top of my non-Trekkie head:
Scotty: "A chimpazee and two trainees could run her." Kirk: "Thank you. I'll try not to take that personally."
Scotty: "She'll launch on time. And she'll be ready."
Scotty: "We can't take another attack."
Kirk: "Scotty, what's left?" Scotty: "Just the batteries. I can give you inpulse power in a couple minutes." Kirk: "We don't have a couple minutes." Kirk: "Scotty, we'll need everything you've got." Scotty: "Aye. Warp drive standing by."

i didn't know he was a veteran of D-Day in the Canadian army...and was shot six times (one bullet cutting off his middle finger)...
i got in trouble in kindergarten for putting on the headphones (we used them for exercise sheets--draw a line from the fire engine to the star. now draw a line from the star to the doghouse, etc...). and doing Scotty impersonations...Captain! we can't take much more of this!

I'm very sad about this. Hasn't he got a couple of kids who are under ten years old as well?
RIP Scotty
Good thread title though :)

Very sad day indeed.
I love your kindergarten story Tobafett. I can just picture it. Shame on that teacher for punishing you. You were quoting a great man. |

Here's a couple more, Kathryn, off the top of my head:
"The generators are bypassing like a Christmas tree, so don't gimme too many bumps."
"Aye! And ion propelled!"
"Does it make a good mix with scotch? I'll let ya know."
"Space, darlin'. Space. That's all it is."
"Sir! There be whales here!"
"He called the Enterprise a garbage scow! That's when I hit the Klingon!"

Aw, sorry to hear this. RIP, Mr. Doohan. He's going to have his ashes scattered in space, like Gene Roddenbery.
"I know this ship like the back of my hand!"
For the last time....beam me up, Scotty!! |
