Yes, the city that happens to be only 20 minutes away from me and filled with hookers and drug addicts is having the Pixies play at their new House of Blues. Which I must say is attracting a lot of modest to big sized acts. Between the new HOB and Borgota, AC is becoming quite the hotspot between Philly and NYC. Anyway, tickets go on sale this Saturday the 17th. If you sign up for HOB.com you can get tickets earlier which is what I just did.

$100? I must have gotten a hell of a discount when I got my ticket for $42 including service charge, then. The balcony seats are the expensive ones, and they're still under $60.

Hey, Hey, Hey, it's 5:30 p.m. on the Jersey Shore! You guys starting to drink to yet?

I hope you guys are meeting up to party before the show.

danjersey, I know you're gonna fuckin ROCK OUT tonight! Enjoy!

Brian, you'll be in Atlantic City, they have a boardwalk, if worse comes to worse, you can always sleep "Under the Boardwalk", or better yet, and I don't know your marital status, so forgive me if this tempting you with forbidden fruit, but, hey, hook up with a honey and let her take you back to her place! Much better than a comped hotel room in my opinion.

i wound up heading back to baltimore w/ a friend for the night, and now i'm heading back to jersey in a few hours.

the show was good. half acoustic/half electric. the only surprise was "needle in my arm/all around the world" the honeycomb outtake was used as an acoustic song! kim did some nice high country harmonies on it. and the acoustic bass is bigger than she is. the set list looks something like (probably out of order):

acoustic:
wave of mutilation (uk surf)
i bleed
crackity jones
monkey gone to heaven
neeedle in my arm/all around the world
bone machine
is she weird
broken face
the holiday song

electric:
where is my mind?
vamos
here comes your man
planet of sound
u mass
gouge away
debaser
tame
mr. grieves
dead
hey
no. 13 baby
something against you
cactus
caribou

encore: gigantic

i met two really nice forumers, useyourname and weepel, both of whom were really cool - hope to see you guys again sometimes.

i was second row center

when they took the stage kim and charles were talking and it was quiet so i said "hi joey" and he looked really confused then waved to me. lots of banter from the band tonight.

thats all til later. help me out w/ the set if i'm forgetting stuff

Could someone tell me more about "Needle in My Arm"?

They were great last night. Frank mentioned seeing the Pixies documentary at a screening a few days ago, which he thought should be titled "Frank Black is an asshole". Heh. He said Kim looked good, and Joey Santiago looked like Marlon Brando, but that he (Frank) looked like a Marlon Brando from a different era.

The set list above sounds pretty accurate to me. I did see a copy of the setlist at the sound board, or part of it anyway, and they were supposed to do Caribou before Dead. I was glad they moved it; the momentum of the songs leading up to Dead were great. It sounded like they did Tame double-time, and Something Against You was mesmerizing. I went to the show in Camden last December, and this was much better.

This one was my first Pixies or Frank experience, and I was blown away. The venue was beautiful and sounded great, and of course the band was phenomenal. I'm glad I got to get a taste of the rare acoustic experience, but still got the "real" Pixies show, too. The setlist order was amazing. It seemed like each moment of each song was more momentous than the last, cumulating with the "REPENT!" in “Caribou” with the dramatic light accompaniment. Wow. The kids were going crazy before the encore (which I thought was handled in a cool way - no walking off stage and pretending that they’re not planning an encore), and the band seemed genuinely flattered.

The only complaint have is lack of “Bossanova” and “Trompe le Monde” material. I know they’ve been playing more of it this summer than last, but it didn’t show last night, aside from “Is She Weird,” “Planet of Sound,” and “U-Mass.” No big deal, though. Every Pixies song is great.

At any rate, it was a beautiful experience.

I'm sure they'll reel out the later songs on future tours. They're probably still sticking loosely to the early classics formula!

The mixing it up between electric and acoustic sounds really cool. Like Frank has been saying in all his lastest interviews he dosn't want the Pixies to become stale.

I also want to note that the transition between the acoustic and electric segments was awesome. Frank started strumming the intro to "Where is My Mind?" while Joe and Kim switched their instruments, then the whole vibe just shifted as Dave kicked in the drums. Goose bumps.

my favorite part was when that guy stumbled on stage and made Joey look paranoid for the rest of the night.

It's a Honeycomb outtake that will hopefully be on The Sicilian. It's got kind of a stock, traditional folk melody to it (I know I've heard that melody before but I can't think of what song it's from), but it's a great song. If you give me your email address I'll send you an mp3.

Is "All Around The World" a Frank original or a cover?

I was at that show, and I enjoyed it a lot, even if a fight did break out near me. I thought the acoustic set was cool.

Nothing but Bossa/Trompe stuff? That won't happen, but I would be terribly disappointed if it did!
