Wow that first picture is awesome, van dyke parkes, Dave Philips, Stan Ridgway, Dave McCaffrey on the couch? Who else is there in that room full of talent. Oh yeah the wonderful Mr.Frank Black.

the dude w/ the long hair is our own eric "echo park" potter, and in front of him holding the guitar is his girlfriend cynthia. they are also in the background of the 'backstage' picture.

van dyke wears the exact same outfit as in the SMiLE DVD
that's funny
I'm not suggesting that he only has one outfit though
to cut a long story short,
I wish Frank would work with Van Dyke Parks and Stan Ridgway again in the future

ah, yes. what a night we had! That *is* Dave McC with the ball cap on the left. on the sofa in front of Cynthia is Andy Diagram who played trumpet that night on Manitoba, and the other Pale Boy - Keith Moline all the way right behind FB. He played the 6/8 arpeggio gtr on the song. It is wonderfully appropriate that a little halo hovers over Van Dyke's head in that shot. He is the true Southern Gentleman and a hell of a lot of fun! I'm not sure if Jean was trying to hide or what... She was really energetic and sweet during the session but a couple months later they were breaking up... Rich Gilbert was in the room but out of reach of the lens. I had such an amazing time talking with him and the other Catholics in between takes about music and guitars and food and what not. I can't believe how much hair was on my head! Spring was right around the corner and when i started swimming again it was mostly shorn. That night was Grammy Awards night and I remember how great it felt to be recording music with that bunch and we all couldn't muster a rat's ass about who was up for what dumb-ass award...
OK - i'll offer an autographed copy of Show Me Your Tears to whoever can identify the man behind me and Van Dyke... Ben, you are disqualified from this contest... |
