It's a bit similar to Kathryn's thread, but this is all about the scent. I was running today and got the overwhelming whiff of wet dog, which I hate. I really, really, really loathe the smell of mushrooms frying. The smell of maggots is pretty revolting too.
I may think of a few more in a minute, but what smells can't you stand?

Bleurghhh! (that looks a bit Calvin & Hobbes)
Oh, and I don't like the smell of dentists rooms. I think it's a sign of the pain to come.

Oh god yes, fried eggs. I had an experience when I was about thirteen, where me and my dad picked up a couple of my friends to go and play golf. They were sitting in the back of the car, and one had come out his house with a fried egg roll. All we could hear was him munch/squelching through this roll which made the smell all the more revolting. Ah man, I'd locked that memory away :(

i loathe the smell of humidity in a house. Especially in my house after a huge storm. When i smeel humidity from the carpet, it means some water entered one way or another after a hurrican or a T-storm :( |

I'm so sorry to have bought it back! But you reminded me of a turn off, I can't abide noisy eaters, especially when I know they are eating something horrible, turns my stomach
and you're questioning the sciences and questioning religion you're looking like an idiot and you no longer care.

Kitchen aromas aren’t very homely. It’s not comforting, cheery or kind. It’s sizzling blood and the unholy stench of murder.

When I was younger there was a refinery near my house, that was bad, but not as bad as the abattoirs and slaughter houses, the smell of sweet footballs?
Those are mostly gone, but they were never as bad as the mushroom farm. I don't think it has always been a mushroom farm, it's in an old elevator marked grain and feed but the area has always been horrible. But then I've never lived near a tannery.
There is a certain place where in years gone by there was an apartment directly above a candy factory, sweet! But across the street from a fish processor, and if the wind was blowing just right... |

Thanks to my chronic sinusitis I have almost no sense of smell. The only odor that has ever managed to make me sick is the horrible stench of a wet dog I had to breathe for miles in an overheated car. I was 8 or 9 years old then, and I still hate dogs today.

There was a tannery a few miles from us when I was a teenager. The bus took us past it every day when we went to school, and it stank of rotten eggs. Horrible.

Industrial kitchens. And brussel sprouts. Beer that hasn't had the beer lines cleaned and has excess yeast creating an egg smelling like beer. Not nice. |

Paper factories stink. I hate the smell of dead animals in the road. My brother rented a beach house 2 weeks ago where a rat had died in the wall and they had to move to another house that first day it was so bad.

I can't stand the smell of most deodarants or hair sprays. The smells stick in my throat.

Meat tastes like murder and murder tastes pretty damn good... kidding.
But I swear the grossest smell ever, I mean ever, was when my deepfreeze in the garage became unplugged in the summer and I cleaned it out after a week. I think I know what a dead body smells like.

Chicken shit/chicken death.
Forrest Gump said "life is like a box of chocolates" but i guess he didn't know about battery chickens (or maybe he was eating some crazy chocolates) but the life of a battery chicken is unvaried, short and not very sweet.
I worked on a chicken farm in a kibbutz in Israel. The (battery) chickens were suspended 12 feet above the ground in cages and, inevitably over a short space of time huge columns of chicken shit would grow up from the ground below forming trenches.
Every other day you'd find a newly deceased chicken - i can only think it was suicide given the smell that originated from those pens.
Anyway, the stench of chicken shit/chicken death was appalling. The two smells combined to form this sickly sweet aroma that I won't forget for a very long time.
