I wish I'd seen it. I wish they'd played
Green Is The Color Bike Summer 68 - > Fat Old Sun Interstellar overdrive Remember a day Julia dream Cirrus minor...
...And while we're in dreamy-dream land ...
...all of the song Echoes (I'm with you, IceCream!) all of Atom Heart Mother Suite and, most of all, **Grantchester Meadows** (I remember, Mass Pleeze, I remember!)

Good, you are so cool.
Velvet Revolver sounded pretty good.
Yep, no commercials on AOL's London feed. Wish You Were Here ruled - thanks for posting the lyrics.

Just remembered, Roger said something like: "It's very emotional being up here, with these three guys, playing this song. This is for everyone here, but especially for Sid."
Or something along those lines. Really quite special, props to the Floyd. I wonder if they ever would reform for a proper tour? I'd be up for seeing them for sure, and they could make a mint.
How's that for a slice of fried gold? |

YES! Not only were they ON STAGE together, but they were also aving a good time and being jovial with one another and yes, Roger was SO incredibly gracious...... really a special moment my boyfriend and I both agree that seeing them during that performance will be one of the most amazing experiences in this era of rock history. |

oh it was wonderful. much of the time, while david was singing, roger would be sort of walking the stage, playing off of nick, holding his hand up to his ear playfully, and singing along with david, unmic-ed, just because he was enjoying himself.... |

Dave Gilmour's vocals have held up really well I think - the pre-chorus of Comfortably Numb was superbly performed, its all very high and delicate, but he pulled it off with aplomb. Also, his guitar playing. Does it need me to comment on how good the guy is?

Seeing him solo made that far more obvious than with the whole band. His solo albums are good, too, tho hardly anyone has them as far as I know.

we have 'about face' and and a self-titled album that are him solo and i can't quite love them. maybe there are more I'd like more? Not sure, I think there's at least one more.... anyway, I feel about his solo work the same way if eel about crosby's solo work - 'good effort, doesn't hit the spot' I think part of the problem with 'about face' is it's markedly 80's production. the songs get buried in it. he IS working on a new solo project and on one hand, I'm thrilled, I think it'll be great, or it COULD be great...I think he's aged incredibly well musically and it'll be more tasteful then past solo work. then again, ia m NOT so happy he's in the thralls of a solo project because it does not support my fantasy of an actual floyd reunion TOUR at least, if not ALBUM (despite the absence of syd, i know) if david is busy with a solo project. oh i am dreaming and should be happy with what i've had. |

I have the first Gilmour solo. Had not heard it for many years. Played only once, recorded it immediately. There's No Way Out of Here, Cry From the Street and No Way - take me way back. Six safety pins - wow, beautiful.
Can you swing from a good rope? ?Can you Mr. Grieves?

I *love* "No Way Out of Here"!
It used to be seven safety pins, downsized down to a symetrical six.
Esquire recently published a scaaaaary profile of Scott Weiland. That dude's got issues.

Torrent Tutorial (Sorry, this is for Windows, not MAC, but it might work for MACs, I'm not sure!)
Torrents are as simple as one-two-three!
1. Download a torrent client. There are many out there, but the one I use and love is bit torrent (http://www.bittorrent.com/) 2. Go to the website that you're downloading the torrent from (dimeadozen, zomb, etree, or wherever else it may be) and click on the link to download it. 3. on the screen that pops up choose what folder to save your files to and click OK or SAVE or whatever it says.
You're done downloading the torrent! It's really that simple, no matter how complex it may appear. Now, be sure to be kind and considerate and upload your torren for others until your upload:download ratio is at least 1:1 (meaning you've uploaded exactly as much as you've downloaded), and preferably 2:1 (meaning you've uploaded twice as much as you've downloaded) or more. Now, I said it was as simple as 1-2-3, but I lied. It's that simple to download the file, but where most people get confused is how the hell to play, burn, etc. a FLAC or SHN or APE (You'll hardly ever come across this format) file. Well, this, too, is as simple as one-two-three!
1. Download "FLAC Frontend" (http://members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm) for FLAC files and "Shorten" (http://www.softsound.com/Shorten.html) for SHN files 2. If you've downloaded FLAC files, open up FLAC frontend and click the "add files" button. Select your FLAC files and click "decode" to convert them to wav files, which can be played on your computer or burned. 3. If you've downloaded SHN files, open up Shorten, click the tab that says "decompress," click "select," choose your SHN files, and click "Go" to convert them to wav files
If you're downloading mpeg ar avi video torrents you won't have to convert them at all, just play them directly on your computer. If you download a DVD, you'll get some crazy formats like VOB and ISO and all kinds of other stuff. But don't fear, you don't have to do anything to these files, just go to your DVD burner or player and simply select the folder labeled "Video_TS"

Thanks NimrodsSon. I'm on a Mac but I'll try this. But, um, what exactly is a torrent? A video or audio file or what? You're dealing with a total moron here.

I've never been able to make bittorrent work and I've tried many times.
I think I'll just have to fork out for the dvd when it's released and skip past elton and smack-boy-doherty to get to the good stuff.

I don't know technically what a torrent is, but I can explain what I do know. It's a way to download files, simple as that. Unlikne a P2P program, such as Soulseek, you don't download from a single user within a program, you download a file that's hosted on a tracker that several people are seeding for you. I'll play out a scenario for you. Say I want to upload a Frank Black and the Catholics show from July 3, 2005 so that people like you can download it. So I make a torrent file for my show, go to dimeadozen.org and I go through the steps to add the show to their tracker (the tracker is basically the list of shows that you can download. It "tracks" the show for you. The show has to uploaded to the tracker for you to be able to download it. The tracker shows how many people have downloaded it, how many people are currently seeding (uploading) it, the name of it, the size, etc. Anyways, I've uploaded my FB&TC show to the tracker at dimeadozen.org.) Now, it doesn't stop there once it's on the tracker. Someone has to be seeding it. So I open my download window and start seeding it. When you download the show to begin with, you're downloading just from me because I'm the only one seeding it. But gradually, as more and more people finish their downloads and begin seeding it themselves, then your download will start to go faster because you're no longer downloading just from me, but from everyone who has finished and is seeding. This is why it's critical that you keep at least that 1:1 ration, because if no one is seeding the show, people can't download it. Well, I hope that at least gives you an idea of what torrent downloading is!

This website has some wonderful tutorials, FAQs, etc., if you want to browse around: http://www.etree.org/
It's worth taking the time to fully understand, as there's some great stuff you can get via torrent downloads without having to go through the hassle of snail mail trading or the unbearable pain of listening to mp3s from soulseek!

Thank you for that easy-to-understand explanation, NimrodsSon.
However, I started sobbing when I read
quote: Say I want to upload a Frank Black and the Catholics show from July 3, 2005
and I realized that such a show could not exist.

what gets me is the people up on the stages have more combined money than all the people watching.
so why don't *THEY* give money and then say "hey guys we took care of it, no worries, you can pay your electrical bill this month." |

Is that a rhetorical question, Ebb?
They're not going to be generous enough as to give up their money over raising more money. Maybe it's a case of pride. Maybe it's material corruption of generosity. How many people gave up their electric bill to support a decrease in Africa's debt (or to see a concert) anyway? |
