if you really wanted that person back in your life, you'd have already called them and you wouldn't be here wondering/asking us/drinking

awww i was sure not trying to be nasty, just realistic. sounds like you were of the same mind set as i was. i will take back the drinking part, that was a bit cheeky. nonetheless, i still think if you were really wanting to open yourself to them, you'd not have had to ask. lo siento ;) |

What is it with people who can't handle their alcohol? I don't get it.
My oldest bestest friend and bandmate (we were? a duo) is back in town for a few months. He lives in Indiana half the year with his dad and the other half here.
And we've been doing great shit since he's got back, recording new shit and hanging out drinking beers on the back porch watching the sunset with is mother, sharing memories. really god times
So I get coerced to stay the night tonight so we get a 12'ver and proceed to record and drink beer.
Well we run out of cigarettes and I say we walk to the store to get more smokes, on me. I even offer to walk myself. He wants to drive. I said guy, we made a pact to never drive drunk. All the promises we made seem to fall out the window.
We get half way there and he grabs me by the throat because I was walking too fast or something and I hit him in the face to get him off me, no big deal. I get to the store first and buy smokes and coke and head back. I reach him and he starts freaking out yellling "do you want to end it right now?" chasing me like a mad animal. I doged his attack with no counter strike and I walked swiftly back to his house knwoing i would beat him by 10 minutes at least to collect my gear, at least 1000$ worth of gear (400$ 4 track, 10 4 track tapes 300 $ Mics, 7 Cords, boom stand,DVD player and DVD, and a few misc. items). And then I had to drive home, and I was probably a little over the limit, but I had nowhere to go. I feared he would trash my car if I left it in his driveway. or we would fight esroy everything in the house inluding my shit.
Old friends. Shit, he is my only true friend really but it's over. 'we were learning so much new shit about each other and then he has to go attack me when he's drunk. No forgiving that. Very dissappointing to me, though it wasn't that way. Yeah, people act freaky when theyre drunk, but I think repressed emotions are amplyfied when youre drunk, obviously he had something against me subconsciously. Sucks. In the 7 years we've been friends, it's the first time he tried to prey on me, that's unforgivable to me. I don't fight anymore, I can't defend myself, all I can do is end you, and I'll end up dead or in jail.
bummer
Blah, fuckin rant.
There goes my friend

Rule #2 - if they get drunk before you do, do something really stupid so that you are not called upon for help by drunken friends. |

this is how I lost a long time friend over a deck of cards.
People love to fuck me over when they're drunk. I think I have an alcohol problem but most of my recent problems with alcohol involve other people's over consumption

When friends start getting drunk - ease out, let them f someone else over. Never take the bait.

i have a hard time doing that but it's good advice. if they really want to be a friend, they'll act like it. and not require extra work from me to be their friend.
thanks kitten! sage advice... |

agreed with above. it's hard. i still have to fight the urge to 'call to check in' but i find i have to fight that urge less and less and i get older just too much to do with the little time we get |

"but I think repressed emotions are amplyfied when youre drunk, obviously he had something against me subconsciously."
i wouldn't be too sure. i know some guys which have similiar problems with alcohol, getting (really) aggressive towards others, especially friends. but from my observation, i think it is more self-hate which they let out. just an opionion.
