Hey all y'all. There is a little Frank interview in the Boston Metro today (which is in other cities as well, so I am assuming it is in ALL the Metro's) - I am typing it out for you since I am SO NICE.
Frank Black and the Blues by Amber Ray Pixies frontman soldiers on with a rootsy solo album and a group tour.
As Frank Black prepares to release his latest roots-leaning solo venture, "Honeycomb" in July, his band, the Pixies, are still on tour and are a year into their return to Indie-rock domination. When Metro spoke with Black, the notoriously enigmatic interviewee surprisingly divulged details about the Pixies' comeback success - and about cashing in on fans nostalgia.
Q: The Pixies has become this band of mythical proportions since breaking up in the early 90s. How do you handle the lore? A: You know, we sit around back stage and slap each other on the back and talk about how great we are, pretty much. [laughs] I try to put on a clean t-shirt. And hair jelly looks nice.
Q: Do you feel more passion for the Pixies or your solo album? A: I enjoy playing and singing, whether its new songs or old songs. Both scratch my itch.
Q: You've been quoted as saying that the recording sessions for Honeycomb were the most mind-blowing experiences in your music career. How so? A: The sessions felt kind of mystical. The players didn't rehearse or hear the songs before recording. On the record, what you hear sometimes is the first or maybe only the second or third time the musicians played those songs. I had never been able to play with people that were able to deal with music in that way.
Q: So what's been the most surprising about the reunion? A: Intially the most surprising thing was how much we sounded the same. Now the most surprising is the sheer amount of money being paid to see us.
Q: You're playing all of the Pixies "classics" on this tour. Would you rather stir up nostalgia in a fan or psych up, say, someone who came to see Interpol into being a new fan? A: As long as they pay the money to get in the door, I'm quite happy to play for them. But we don't feel like we're playing old songs. We're just sort of picking up where we left off. We feel like the songs are still contemporary.

I'm not sure I got it right. Does Frank Black says he uses hair jelly? Where exactly?

On Kim?
I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied. |

Wonderfully deadpan response to the inevitable "what's it like being back together?" question.
