You don't understand, it has nothing to so with them (I am seeing them again tomorrow night after all). It's the only four days of the year that I feel like I can truly let go and do what I want to do and be who I want to be.

So yeah, me sad.

If those are the only four days of the year you let loose might I recommend you start doing something silly in public at least a couple days a week, like walk down the street backwards or wear an MC hammer teeshirt. Besides building up an energy of spontanaeity (which is seriously suppressed in us from ooh right about the time we start school), it really helps dispel all those notions of what other people might think. Another one is go to work with a toothbrush behind your ear and if someone says Why have you got a toothbrush behind your ear just say What toothbrush? It helps distance yourself from the herd-mind, which is terrified of anything spontaneous and likes things nice predictable and deathly dull, you're just a guy with a toothbrush behind his ear.
These are just little ways I have when I feel energy at a staid ebb (when i want something more drastic I move house or country), so I hope it entertains you as much as your posts do me.

You know what Owen, I was just thinking this about an hour ago. You spend most of your life in a zombie like state. Life feels like it enjoys you more than you enjoy it. It's time to grab it by the balls.

Actually this makes me sound like a right bore. I have actually started being more myself in the last few years. My friend and I were talking about this yesterday (yes, at Reading ; )). It's just that at Reading, I can REALLY be myself. there's something really liberating about dancing into a shop or asking a barmaid for a cup of tea with two sugars. It's amazing how often things like this get a positive reaction, thus proving that worrying about what people think of you is bullshit really.

Hell, I even took action when a girl looked at me on the dancefloor this weekend.

I got to agree with Owen here, it's up to you to make things interesting, you'll be waiting forever for other people to do it for you. I like having themed days, victorian day is my favourite because I get to dress like a proper twat, rhyming couplet day is good but challenging.

What is it that reading has that the outside world doesn't? Or what has it that you can't bring out of it?

Well it doesnt have so many narrow minded scally assholes for a start. Everyone dresses like they don't give a fuck, acts like they don't give a fuck (but not in a bad way) and people are just really really friendly. So you are encouraged to join in.

Thing is, generally in the environment of uptight assholes someone has to not be an uptight asshole to show them the way. You either move with the crowd or you dance through it, and if you start dancing, well you know what happens when people conga...

That's a admirable attitude. Sadly it's also one that get's your head kicked in in many places in England. And I don't think I'd like that.

But sometimes it gets a lab full of international students doing the backing vocals while you dance around the benches with your lab coat collar turned up *killing* suspicious minds.

head kicked in though? thats a bit extreme, what exactly *do* you get up to at Reading?

When we think of doing something spontaneously silly and happy in public usually there's this internal censor that mousetraps back and says something like Might land you in trouble mister/misses or People will think you're a jerk but really people are glad to be around someone who's acting on their spark.

Yeah but a lot of students are really cool, and like-minded with myself.

Scallies beat up students or anyone who looks remotely like one. That said, if they are on their own, they had better be hard.

I am gonna make an effort to 'sieze the day' more than ever now though.

6 days and no response from the only decent radio station we've got to air some Honeycomb.

Perhaps it's a revenge.

Frank deserves it, after all.

AND for Ben from Dillinger Escape Plan to have injured his arm again thereby dashing my hopes and dreams of an autumn tour.

AND Amazon emailing me to let me know that my order of one of the most eagerly anticipated cds in a long time is going to be delayed by 4 to 6 weeks. Bastards.

AND that the Manchester Pixies show sounded like it was as good as I dreamt it would be.

Fire made it good.

Before you drown them dear, always take it out on the other people. Don't drown in forms.

The last thing I needed today was to sprain my ankle and have to wear this oh-so-attractive ankle support.

Can't complain through really.

A friend of mine had to suffer the indignity of wearing supportive footwear after the removal of her enormous bunions and to add insult to injury the hospital was short of wheel chairs, so she had to use a commode for a few days to be transported about.

The last thing I needed today or any day was for my kid to tell me, tears in her big brown eyes, her little chin trembling:
"I want a different mommy. It's OK (pats my arm) you can be another kid's mommy. But I need to have a better mommy."

All because I was making her take her afternoon nap.

Gonna go cry myself to sleep now. It's naptime, after all.

I had to endure this morning 2 hours of hysterical crying and irrational behavior from my tired daugther who had up until 10:30 last night at a baseball game (after a soccer game).

"I want to read!"
"Then read."
"But you won't let me."
"No, you can."
"I want to read!"
and so on .................

...people at work being absolutely irrational. three of my four 'big' projects for the next year could all potentially fall apart TODAY because of people either a) not realizing what they were getting into, b) having egos the size of china or c) having no sense of loyalty.

if the mets didn't win today and if that count chokula wasn't so fucking delicious and i didn't watch a good movie this morning, i swear i'd hit someone

The last thing I needed tonight was for my best friend's wife to give my daughter a Barbie laptop for her fourth birthday. The fucking thing speaks in what my best friend drunkenly and accurately described as a "smoky cheerleader voice," which threw me into drunken hysterical laughter.
