Today I heard a cover of the Clash's most excellent song
"Death or glory." (I didn't catch who the artist was, perhaps
someone here can enlighten me?) IT SUCKED. Wimpy vocals, cliche production, lame guitar solo thrown in at the end. Plus
it was the clean version so they bleeped out the word "fuck" in "He who fucks nuns will later join the church," one of the best lines ever written.

Are there any covers of songs that drive you insane?

Not really, but today, I was dumb enough to switch on the radio as I got home, and was greeted by a French version of "Mr. Tambourine Man"...

Note to self: must. not. listen. to. radio.

My one guilty pleasure is loving Rumours by Fleetwood Mac(cringe)! I hate the diddly ey techno cover of Dreams the Corrs did, but then again I hate all their music.

But the original sucks even more.

Kathryn, the Clash cover looks quite nightmarish.

No it doesn't you freak.

You can keep your gay Europop Denis, give me bearded hippies any day.

Hip hop artists usually do awful covers of other people's music.

I don't like that whisper to a scream that they keep playing on the radio.

I think I had to endure Atomic Kitten butchering a Blondie track a couple of summers ago. I'd blocked it from my memory but now it's oozing it's way back in.

How about Placebo's cover of Where is my Mind? I love Placebo and I love the Pixies, but somehow that one didn't live up to the sum of its parts. Also, the Futureheads covering Hounds of Love was pretty horrible.

Placebo, I hate them so much, that I think it's almost a sin that Frank could someday sing a song with them, and I can't imagine why did he allowed them to sing it.
So, 'Where is my mind' by Placebo is the worst I can think of right now.

Have you heard the version that William Shatner did?

I experienced an odd sensation of barfing and laughing all at the same time.

Not as genius as his cover of Pulp's 'Common People'. Or Pat Boone's version of 'Enter Sandman', for that matter.

I haven't heard it, because I still refose to listen to it, but I think Papa Roach's cover of "Gouge Away" makes a lot of people barf (or worst, kill themselves).

Brian, I once again, being the forum moron, misunderstood.
My issue is Mark McGrath or whatever his name is. He is just
so very annoying, as is his music.

You're So Vain.

The original is barely listenable, and I get images in my head of Warren Beatty and Axl Rose playing roughly.

Live and Let Die.

McCartney's original is brilliant. Guns 'n' Roses was a shame. I actually have a friend who thinks G 'n R's cover is worlds better. Whatever girlfriend.

Dolly Parton and Ladysmith Black Mombazo cover Knocking On Heaven's Door. It's still better than Guns and Roses.

I know Brian already mentioned Smash Mouth, but their version of "I'm A Believer" is just plain BAD.

While on the subject of bad covers, I find it necessary to mention this excruciatingly awful concept:

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

Oh god yes, I thought the Placebo version of WIMM sucked absolute arse. I'm not a huge fan of the song or band to be honest, but the two married together is just...horrible.

Van Halen doing You Really Got Me. Damn.

i can't imagine social d doing a crap version of death and glory.

i have live at the roxy and i think their cover of "under my thunb" is one of the worst covers i have ever heard, yet on the same album they do "ring of fire" and it is fukin' brilliant.

that six pence none the richer cover of there she goes makes me barf.
